Gambesons are the leather shirts of the infantry. You have achieved a very nice colour with good shading effects. He wants to know which paint colours you mixed together - your recipe, like baking a cake, what proportions of each colour?zendor wrote:What do you mean by color recipes?
What is "gambesons"?![]()
Yellow is just vallejo model color.

Gambesons are padded armour, not a leather shirt - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambeson (if you'll excuse the use of wikipedia

As I´m struggling with yellow and need to find a good colour for gambesons, I would really like to know what colours you used.

First variant is for more realistic view.
1. GW Graveyard Earth as base color, and it'll be the darkest shadow. Make as much layers as you need to overlap the color of prime coating(I use grey as prime color, so for me it isn't difficult, and I need just 2 layers).
2. GW Graveyard Earth(50%) + Vallejo ModelColor Khaki(50%). It'll be a mid tone on prominent parts of leather armor.
3. GW Graveyard Earth(30%) + Vallejo ModelColor Khaki(70%). You should not place paint on whole surface of prominent parts, just on parts on which the conjectural light falls.
4. Then light washing with Vallejo Wash Lavado(40%) + GW Gryphonne Sepia(30%) + Water mixed with Medium Mat(Acrylic Thiner) (30%).
5. Vallejo ModelColor Khaki(50%) + Vallejo Model Color Sand Light(or GW Bleached bone)(50%). It'll be the lightest parts of armor, the highlights.
Second variant is not so realistic but, more "colorfull". The idea is to use GW Bubonic Brown in place of Vallejo Khaki.
Or you may mix GW Bubonic Brown and Vallejo Khaki, and make a layering with that mix. It'll be like a middle way.

What did you mean by "yellow". Where do you find this "yellow"?Derbo wrote:Thanks mate!
Any further information on how you did your yellow?

If you need true light yellow, the best yellow paint I've ever used is Vallejo ModelColor Flat Yellow.
In general, Vallejo ModelColor Khaki, Vallejo ModelColor Flat Yellow, GW Bubonic Brown, GW Bronzed Flesh - are colors I usually use for yellow.
I should have been more specific.
I´m interested in the yellow of the banner of the Men-at-Arms, it looks stunning.
Also, I like the difference between the bright yellow of the Men-at-Arms and the dull yellow tones on some of the brigans shields.
To be honest, I would also like to know how you did the red on the Men-at-Arms...
Sorry for troubling you with so many questions and thanks for your help

Just try to experiment with this paints: Vallejo ModelColor Khaki, Vallejo ModelColor Flat Yellow, GW Bubonic Brown, GW Bronzed Flesh, and you'll achieve all the results you want.Derbo wrote:I should have been more specific.

Red is GW Scab Red as base, then Vallejo ModelColor Red, and some Vallejo Red + GW Bleached bone as highlights (or Red + Yellow as highlights).
No problem, you don't trouble me, I'm glad to answear your questions, but I think I can't really help you. You should experiment for yourself, and you should be careful and paint them neatly as much as possible.
