FoG World Championships at Cancon 26 - 28 January 2013

Post by rossco »

Hi folks.

The 2013 FoG world championships will be held at Cancon on 26 to 28 January. This event is part of the wargames championships supported by the Worlds group.

Please follow the link to the Canberra Games Society webpage for the world championships:

http://www.cgs.asn.au/index.php/cancon/the-worlds

The FoG ancients and medieval championship will be 800 points from any published official list. The FoG renaissance championship will also be 800 points from any published official list. Follow the CGS website links to read the full details for both tournaments.

For the FoG ancients it is hoped that we can use version 2 is that is available in printed form, otherwise we will use version 1 or an interim version 2 amendment sheet if that is available. A decision on the rules version in use will be posted well before the event.

Regards,
Ross Dawe.

Offer to overseas contenders

Should you wish to attend but not want to travel with your army let us know here in Australia - we can probably supply any army you may wish to use (and they are all good quality).
I reckon we should ban French Ordonnance though (knights, pikes and longbow -expected to be pretty good in v2)!

Get in quick though.

My wife and I are planing a trip down under in May or June next year. Would you consider shifting the dates of CanCon for my convenience? 8)

Maybe you could time it right so you can do the US open in 'San Francisco' on the way out of the USA? A couple of us Kiwis hope to attend it. Be sure to let me know your itinerary as it develops so we can hopefully meet up/provide travel tips etc.

Two weeks after the US teams, and 5 months after the 2012 worlds... Couldn't you coincide it with the Ashes so English visitors can enjoy a double celebration... ;)

Hi folks.

I am happy to report that plenty of entries have been coming in for the FoG:Ancients and Medieval world championship at Cancon, including half a dozen overseas players signed up so far.

A reminder for players to register soon if you want your souvenir world championship polo shirt.

Note that registration and submission of an army list is open until mid January: see the details on the Canberra Games Society website at
" http://www.cgs.asn.au/index.php/cancon ".

I'd better get on with painting the other half of my Early Achaemenid Persian army if I want some practice games before the big event.

Regards,
Ross Dawe.

Hi there!
Will someone publish a list about the armies in the tournament?

I'm already in Canberra and just visited the Memorial War ;-)

Hi Nicola - I hope to see you on Saturday! The organiser is going to post the R&R tonight on the Australian Yahoo Group. Send me your email and I will send it to you when it comes through, if you get no other reply.

Cheers!

 so I think it would be a hard task for my horse archers to sting your iron covered Serbians... And a busy day for my crusader knigths
I'm bringing Ilkhanids (thanks to the Newcastle friends)

It could be my first world competition with a lot of knights: that's why it's nice to play thousands of Ks far from home :D

1. Martin Williams Aus
2. Mark Holland NZ
3. Shaun Drummond NZ
4. Ross Dawe Aus
5. Stephen Ladanyi NZ
6. Brett Kvisle Aus
7. Murray Evans Aua
8. Andre Evers NZ
9. Michael Gray Aus
10. Ian Sharp Aus
11. Richard Woolford NZ

The trans-Tasman trophy (won by NZ for the past 4 years) was awarded to Australia on count back. Using the first criteria (sum of the placings for the 4 highest ranked players for each country) the results were tied 18-18. On count back Martin's substantial points haul (114.2 over 6 rounds) pushed Australia into first place.

Martin's 16 BG Ming Chinese drove all before it. Richard Woolford came closest to breaking it having optimal match-ups in a key move and choking with a shocking round of pip dice ( something like 1 hit out of about 18 dice with superior re-rolls - Martin may correct any exageration I have made).

I certainly had one or two fortunate moments but I cant remember exactly. Richard certainly gave me a tough game with his Mayan getting 13 of my 16 attrition points before his army broke after suffering 12!

I had a great weekend and would like to thank Ross Dawe for organising the comp and Murray Evans for helping with the scoring and draw. It made me wish I could make it to Cancon every year.

I'm sure there will be more detailed evaluation/discussion to come but in general I think the V2 canges made for faster and more balanced games. They certainly made my MF bw/xb significantly more dangerous, allowed me to to field 2 units of protected ave Bw Sw cav without feeling they were a liability and the elephants I had been so worried about proved useful (even when dying, as they often did).
