Some suggestions

Post by Pranky »

Hello,

after playing a couple of hours with several beginnings I have some suggestions, which could be but must not be good :)

- I would like to have a hotkey for "quick save"-feature.

- when hovering over my enemy which I plan to attack, it would be nice to become a possible outcome of the fight. Right now there are only the modified strengths of the units shown.

- Unit upgrade: when I discover new weapons or armors for a design, I have to copy the design and equip it with the new equipment in the workshop. So far so good. What I cannot do is upgrading existing units in the field to the new design. I have to build the unit from scratch. Annoying if the unit has made some rank upgrades. (or have I missed this feature?)

- Stacks of Doom: I hate the idea to defend a hex with tons of stacked units. One unit per hex would be the better version imho

- I would like to rename my designs to better see the differences in unit build manager in the city window. I see the icons but I would like to have a "Flamethrower Goon" running around the planet :)

- I miss the option to rename the cities to my wished name.

And oh boy, I love the Xenomorphs being called "bugs". I always wanted to be one of "Rico´s Roughnecks" :)

Just my 50 cents right now :)

2nd the wish for a "Quick Save" hot key. 2nd the idea for renaming cities and units.

An additional hot key I'd like would be a "Wait" key for a unit. I don't always want to move a unit at the time it cycles up. I'd like to be able to pass it until later in the turn.

Thank you,

did I overread these keys somewhere in the options menu?

No, they're not yet documented anywhere. Top secret!

Thanks for the hot keys. The work great. Some additional suggestions.

1) When allowing Tips. One comes up that says: "The priorities panel helps you focus your colonists into specific areas. Feel free to experiment, you can see the reflected changes in the statistics panel just below. Being smart about priorities can be the difference between a flourishing empire and a miserable one." I can see the panel labeled "Statistics", but the panel just above it says "Population". Is this the panel your refering to in the tip? I think it is as that is where you adjust your workers. Tip should reflect the "Population" panel or the "Population" panel should be relabeled "Priorities".

2) When you hover over the city name it would be nice if it told you what item was being produced in that city rather than having to open the city panel. My old brain can't remember all the icons and it is frustrating having to open the city screen to find out.

3) Saved files locaton and default open a saved game file location. If you use the F5 key to quick save, it saves the file to the same folder as an auto save. When you save a file from the menu, it saves it to a different folder location. Would be nice if all your saved files went to the same folder and when you go to open a saved game file the default folder that opens is your saved game folder. Right now it defaults to the auto save game folder and you have to manual change the location to find your saved games. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, what I would like to see is when you go to open a saved game it defaults to my saved games and not the auto saved game folder.

4) I hope I'm not rambling on too much about things that bug me in the game. I think that is what you want but if I'm grumbling too much, let me know. I do like the game and think it will be great when it's completed.

Stacks of doom are a pain, but even worse are the crippling problems that come with AI trying to maneuver many units in a fairly tightly packed map. If you've played civ V you'll have a good idea of the problems that even very high budget teams have had with this.

Unless the distance between cities is dramatically increased, I definitely think using many units per tile is better than the alternative. Having attacks that target multiple units in a tile are a good way of discouraging ridiculous stacks. Currently this game has nukes which do that, but they are very late game and rather expensive. It would be nice to have artillery units with in-stack splash damage, or something along that line.

Hello,

after several hours of play, I can answer this myself. Yes there will be weapons to add to your vehicles which do long-range splash damage. So these stacking is worked against. Thank you very much.

Do the artillery actually do splash damage? I've never seen an AI with more than 1 unit in a stack at that stage in the game.

yes the artillery does splash damage. I whiped a out a stack of 3 xenomorph drones (bugs :)) which were located in a hive with one hit.
