Hey Hidde, I've just double checked the OOB -> http://bit.ly/BA88gjs44oob

Your BG, 8/3cdn, had 18 units available to it before it started this battle, which is why you are limited to a force selection of 18 not 20.
iProp lost two units in his Abbaye game, which you're replaying, so the lost units, an M10 and an M5, are being deducted from your start.
So, yup, park 'em in the NE corner, facing outwards please... They'll be deducted as KIAs from your game.
Mlazar, as the German, lost a VG and has to leave it in the SW corner... There's no extra points from killing these already KIA'd units (which should be far from flags).

Yes Hidde so it keeps the same momentum as before the battle stopped. 1 M5 and 1 M10 to the corner that Jon/Gotolove88s pointed you. Try to kill as many units and keep yours alive as many as possible, take care of your scouts and recon armour and have fun, remembre that you have to keep at least one flag so the BG doesnt get dissolved.

GJS'44 campaign - JC/CaveHobbit - Which of you can take MKboy into your squads? Looks like we've had a few dropouts and there will be plenty of battles, June 10th...

Normandy Ninja - Do you fancy joining a tourney? New round just starting -> viewtopic.php?f=115&t=39693&start=320#p387789

Welcome to GJS'44
Welcome MkBoy!

If we're five active players on each side, MkBoy can choose side himself.

That's fair... I'm not sure iProp or Mowby are still active... I think they're temporarily MIA, coming back later... So the teams are 4 vs 4.

So MKBoy, do you prefer bangers'n'mash, with or without maple syrup... Or Knackwurst und Sauerkraut?

Yes, I killed them in the earlier turn and I have to park 1 VG I lost. I too have less than 25 units.

Tough choice as I'm a foodie, but baners and mash sounds real good right now, along with a night draught ale.

Good answer, MK. JC, looks like he's one of yours.

I've signed you up to the Allied private thread, where you'll be able to read Hidde's commentary/screenshots on the current Abbay d'Ardenne battle. And there'll be some team strat chat on moves for June 10th...

Come back to me or JC with any questions, anytime. JC, better get the man a pint of your best draught... He looks thirsty! ;-)

And you come handy because next turn looks like is going to be full of battles we Will explain you the rules so you can go understanding step by step the bigger picture of the canpaing, is easy so it Will not take to much time before you are giving ideas.

For the benefit of welcome recent joiners, CoreySr (already blooded once!), Hidde (playing now), Honour79 & MKBoy1313...

Here's the Strategic Campaign Map as it stands for June 9th AM

Each icon represents a Battle Group (BG) of upto 32 units. The number of surviving units is in the top left of each BG icon (eg. 11 units for II/726/716). 858/346 is bordered in red, showing that it is "Out of Supply" (no connection to friendly territory) and therefore suffers morale penalties, while 6AL/6 is bordered in orange, showing that it will be "Out of Supply" in one turn, if other units cannot fight a friendly corridor towards it. The big battle in the centre is at Abbaye d'Ardenne, where there is a fight on to open a resupply corridor for 6AL/6, hoping to reinforce the paras to hold onto Caen.

Darker units (eg. 26/12SS, 25/12SS, 30/79 and 5AL/6) are elites, always enjoy medic and rally bonuses, and usually have much better kit.

Feel free to brainstorm strategic movement ideas for June 10th with your team mates on your private threads... BGs that remain in place for a turn defend as Attack v Fortified Defence (AFD, with 25 units defending against 20 attackers). BGs that can intercept another BG while it is retreating or moving from one sector to another win an Attack v Surprised Defence (ASD, where the attacker has 25 units vs the defenders 20). Most other battles, where both BGs are moving into the same sector, are fought as Meeting Engagements (ME, with 20 units each).

That's probably plenty of background for now... Enjoy! And welcome.

Am I safe in assuming that the 858/346 is out of supply range due to the waterway? (I see adjacent units there).

Correct. The only places where BGs or supplies can cross the Caen Canal/Orne River are Orne Bridge, Caen and Pegasus Bridge, making those three sectors strategically critical...

With >80 MP under your belt, I'm guesstimating your rank at around Major...

So to help everyone figure out how tough their opponent might be, here's an approximate ranking of the two teams. Rankings are dynamic and I'll nudge all of us up or down gradually depending on battle results, unit kills, units lost, importance of unit types killed or lost (transports are vital to win the campaign), etc...

South Carolina actually. Just north of Fort Jackson appropriately enough. I can hear their artillery fire most days.

Looking back to our June 9th Strat Map -> viewtopic.php?f=87&t=38844&p=388401#p388357

Would Commanders consider assigning specific BG's to individual players?

It would give players ownership over the success of their brigades through the campaign. So, for example, an Allied player might be given permanent control of 9/3 and 2/Cdn with an objective to "Capture Bayeux", while a German player might be given permanent control over 914/352 and 915/352, ordered to "Hold Pegasus Bridge and Merville/Franceville at all costs".

With 4-5 players per side, and about 10 BGs per team on the map, plus more coming, it makes around 2-3 BGs each.

For each day, Players would recommend their BG's moves (and make requests, pleas, demands, hehe, for specific bonuses, reinforcements or support from a neighbouring player) to their Commander, so the Commander could wrap it all up into the Team Orders for that day.

With that in mind, please submit requests to lead the BG's that you like the look of, to your Commanders, on your team's private thread...

PS. JonCorcuera got quite attached to his valiant 858/346 "Haifisch" brigade in a series of spectacular defences. ;-)
