Language choices
I realize it's very early in development, but I'd like to go on record with this suggestion for when it gets closer to stable release.
I don't know if foreign languages will be choosable in the final game, but I would very much like to see the player given a choice of UK vs. US English. That would help the player feel comfier playing, regardless which side of the pond he/she is on. It can be distracting going through a game that uses certain words frequently and always thinking "But they 'center' is spelled wrong" or "I wish they wouldn't truncate 'programme' all the time".

Re: Language choices
I have seen language selection being an option in game(there's only one choice so far), and it seems like it would be very easy for you to modify the language yourself right now with the modules setup the way that they are.peyre wrote:I realize it's very early in development, but I'd like to go on record with this suggestion for when it gets closer to stable release.

Localization is in the works, yes. If you take a look at the scripts folder, you'll see that we have the infrastructure in place in order to support multiple languages. We won't start with the translation process until we get closer to release, though.peyre wrote:I realize it's very early in development, but I'd like to go on record with this suggestion for when it gets closer to stable release.

Re: Language choices
We plan to add languages but we have never supported US versus UK English. This creates a lot of additional work for very little benefit. You have to maintain 2 sets of data. I think its very unlikely we'd do that and I don't know any other games that do.
Re: Language choices
i´m german but i will never play this game with any german word!!!!! it simply does not fit
or do your here any german word with the nasa ? i don´t think so. because of me this game could also on English remain. BARIS I had even on englisch.

Re: Language choices
If language translations are available, I don't see the difficulty of adding a second set for the other main written dialect of the game's primary language. You essentially copy and modify the language data for the default language. If there were any call for it, I'd have already made a UK translation for BARIS (to the extent the game can be translated).
Then again, if the language files in BASPM are easily modded, that'd be a fine workaround for any linguistic nitpickers.

The text files are already available under the SPM-Windows_Data/Scripts subfolder, so you can easily mod them if you want. What Iain was trying to say is that we don't believe we'll support two versions of English out of the box, but feel free to tweak the text files if you want, it's all there available for players to tinker withpeyre wrote:Then again, if the language files in BASPM are easily modded, that'd be a fine workaround for any linguistic nitpickers.

For those that do decide to tinker, will they lose their work every time the game is patched?Nacho84 wrote:The text files are already available under the SPM-Windows_Data/Scripts subfolder, so you can easily mod them if you want. I'm afraid so, yes. But you can always do a backup of your scripts subfolder before doing an update. In any case, I recommend you guys to wait a few weeks before tinkering with the strings in the text files. There's lots of changes in the horizonHTower wrote:For those that do decide to tinker, will they lose their work every time the game is patched?

Jesco von Puttkammer told me that German was virtually the second language at the NASA till the 1960's, because of the many German engineer's working at NASA. While the Gemini program was in execution and the Apollo program had entered the production stage, more and more American personnel were involved in R&D, so German language was only spoken in the private circles and sometimes in the breaks.Ponepilos wrote:i´m german but i will never play this game with any german word!!!!! it simply does not fitor do your here any german word with the nasa ? i don´t think so. because of me this game could also on English remain. Re: Language choices
Speaking of other languages, I hope Russian will be offered eventually. We've had several people say they wished BARIS/RIS could be translated into the language of the world's first space program, but the game can't display Cryillic characters...or anything besides your basic Latin capital letters. It won't even display lower case or letters with accent marks.
