Hi guys,

finally the long awaited patch is here. When you look at the change list you can see why it took a while, plus we've had lots of other stuff going on :)

Download the beta patch from **** This path has been replaced by the final 1.06 patch ****

There have been huge performance inscreases and lots of gameplay tweaks so this is probably the best patch yet!

Please note this is a public beta patch for the English Slitherine digital download version only (not for Matrix, CDV, Anuman, Friendware or any other publisher versions). Once this has been tested we'll prepare the final version ready for release for all other versions.

If you have any problems with the beta patch please let us know!

Bug fixes & Improvements
- Performance, the frame rate has been increased by ~30% when moving units!
- Performance, improved loading times
- Performance, selecting units on map is faster
- Fixed a bug allowing tactical bombers, fighters and carriers to sneak peak on a enemy unit in teh fog of war, hiding on a resource hex
- Fixed a bug with fog of war being off for transports under certain conditions
- Fixed a bug with fog of war where subs could still spot from their previous location after the convoy move started
- TcpIP, fixed a bug with reassigning a leader not working on both machines
- TcpIP, fixed a bug where sub surprise attack combined with unloading convoy cargo was not completed in the correct sequence
- TcpIP, fixed a bug where a unit was stacked on the same hex bumping into sub and client+host did not resolve same combat
- TcpIP, fixed a bug where RANDOM_ENTRY was not the same on both machines
- TcpIP, fixed a bug where the wrong leader was sometimes recruited on the other machine
- Units can now exit the transportation loops placed on the loop hex itself, in case all the adjacent hexes are occupied. Subs that do this become instantly visible on map to prevent exloits with placing hidden sub on loop hex and blocking it
- Convoys and transports no longer receive experience
- Bristol has been replaced by Cardiff and positioned one hex NW, and it gets a Sea Port
- Sub technology diffculty is now 15 instead of 20
- It is no longer possible to view enemy units max tech level
- Naval units now have zoc penalty too, +4 MP (compared to +2 MP for land units)
- UK convoys now reroute to Canada as soon as London falls to Axis
- Syria when Annexed by UK now starts with a corps, a fighter and a battelship
- Research progress % is now shown more exact i.e. for each 1% reached

Data File Changes
Technology.txt
- Switched Infantry fixed defences L2 with L3, giving corps more early benefits
- BB now get ASW advances on L2, L4, L6 so a bit later than before
- BB and DD now misses L3 surface ships instead of L5.
- Infantry AT is now +1, +1, +2, +1, +1, +2
- Tank Destroyer is now +1, +2, +1, +2, +1,
- Strategic Operations L3 now give land spotting +2 instead of +1
- Industry tech is more powerful +9,+9,+9,+6,+5 instead of +7,+6,+5,+4,+3
- Organisation tech difficulty changed from 55->50
- Strategic Operations L1 now gives some extra movement

Terrain.txt
- Capital Attack Efficiency now 65%
- Sea Port Attack Efficiency now 50%

Unit.txt
- Air units now have land spotting 5 instead of 4
- Transports now have movement 17 instead of 14
- Subs now have land spotting 0
- sub,DD,BB cost -10
- strategic bomber cost -5
- tactical bomber cost +5
- carrier +1 naval combat
- Air units now have slightly more movement

- General.txt :
UPGRADE_MINIMUM_COST decreased 4->3
AFRICA_LOOP_TURNS decreased 2->1
ALLIES_WINTER_SUFFER decreased 30->0
EFFICIENCY_REGAIN Increased 130->145
EFFICIENCY_LOSS_CASUALTY_FACTOR decreased 55->45
EFFICIENCY_LOSS_FROM_UNLOAD increased 12->15
EFFICIENCY_LOSS_LACK_SUPPLY increased 3->10
COMMANDER_REASSIGN_COST increased 2->7
MAX_LABS decreased 13->10

Scenarios:
- In 1939, 1940, 1941 USSR has more armour and less corps around the Urals and their air units no longer start near the front line
- In 1939, Egypt starts as a separate country who joins the Allies in 1940, which effectively limits UK forces from moving out of Egypt and leaving it empty
- In 1939, France start with more Garrisons (Lyon, Cherbourg,Brest)
- In 1939, German starting PP is now 20 instead of 60
- UK and France start with 5% higher war effort
- UK Sub replaced by a Battleship
- In 1939, 1940 Italy starts with a fighter near Rome instead of a Tactical Bomber up north

Map:
- Belfast is added as UK city on Ireland.
- USSR cities redistributed so that Stalingrad is worth more and some eastern cities worth less.
- Bergen Sea Port worth less, Iron Ore Route worth more
- Hex (78, 6) now Rough, Hex (78, 7) now Mountain

After installing the patch the "sleep" function stopped working for me.

Is the change list complete? I remember Johan talking about some minor AI improvements...

Anyway I must say that the performance increase is great, the game plays without any hiccups now! BTW playing it in 1.05 makes me realize how slow some things were before, seems I was so immersed in gameplay I did not notice it then :)

EDIT> My bad, the "sleep" does work, I just don't see the "Zzz" on the unit. Could anyone check this? I don't know if it's because of the patch or my playing with the graphic files (although I'm pretty sure I did not touch this one).

Nice find, apparently the sentry image files were not included into the patch library

Nice. :) I will try the v1.05 beta soon. Do you also have the link to v1.05 beta Editor so it's possible to upgrade our mods to v1.05? Or can I use the v1.04 editor to modify the v1.05 scenarios?

No. The beta patch works only for the Slitherine version of the game. When the official v1.05 is launched then there will be a Matrix version available at the Matrix WEB site.

I think it's called "sentry" in CEAW, my bad for using a term I got used to in other games. Anyway it makes the unit not appear in the "next unit" cycle, and is activated by a hotkey "s". It's not in described in the manual as it has been added in a patch.

While indeed the max tech level of enemy units is displayed as "?", sometimes the tech level is displayed in red. I've no way to check this, but if it's because the unit can be upgraded then maybe it's too big a give-away?

ah, I have to check up on that. if enemy has color then u can see that they HAVE new tech but not how much new. That gives away too much, correct and should be fixed

I think it was on the to-do-list of the patch - anyway repairing minor countries units still allows one to go into negative PP.

How should we understand this? Are you saying the balance has been changed in favour of the axis? If so I disagree... do give us some arguments.

UK have been given some free units in Syria so all in all I think the patch is balanced :)

Yes about half a dozen small issues that were spotted post 1.05 including the experience icons in other languages.
