Dotted Lines on Mimi-map

Can someone explain what the dotted lines running across the map (sometimes multiples, closely parallel) are for on the mini-map. This is on the iPad but I assume they have a purpose and would be also found in the PC version.

I Only se these linnes on the ipad (2) ,not on the pc
