Naval transport not being added
Hi. I think I found a bug. When you research Naval Transport Technology, it says that it is supposed to add Transport to your available units. However this does not happen.

Re: Naval transport not being added
As for all advancements, after you research it, you still have to have one of your cities produce it.
Then it becomes universally available to you.
Then it becomes universally available to you.
Re: Naval transport not being added
That seems a bit odd, because with other types of research you get the new unit type straight away (Naval electric motor - Barracuda hovercraft, Assault Vehical - Tank, etc).
Re: Naval transport not being added
Some techs comes with a 'must be produced components' some don't. It's precised in the flavor text of the tech once you have researched it.
Re: Naval transport not being added
Nope, it is definately a bug. I tried again, this time after researching I produced the Naval Transport Technology in one of my cities. I still do not have the transport available as a unit.
Pretty much makes the game useless, as there is no way to send colonisers or troops across the water.

Re: Naval transport not being added
Transports do not need to be explicitly built.
When you research Naval Transportation Logistics, it says the advancement provides "Land units can embark into water transports".
Will check if we can make it any clearer.

It really is not clear. The technology implies that it provides 2 things:
Unit: Transport
Technology: land units can be transported by the Naval Transport.
As I understood it, researching the tech. would give you the Transport unit, and producing the tech would provide the ability for land units to be carried on the Transport.
So if I understand correctly now, researching the tech doesn't really do anything except give you the production ability. Producing it then allows land units to be transported on water units. There is no specific unit called a Naval Transport, but rather you can use existing waterborne units like the Barracuda. Is that correct ?

Re: Naval transport not being added
Not quite. After producing the advancement, you simply drive your ground unit - including captured aliens - into
the water. The unit itself changes to a water transport. On the other side, it reconverts into the original
unit.
One of the major pitfalls is that you can have a unit of power 150, but when it is in the water and becomes a
transport, it drops to a power of 1. So your tricked out super-tank is now vulnerable to attack and destruction
by even the weakest units. This is a bigger problem when you point your unit to a destination and the program
decides to take it across a body of water. Many times, there just happens to be a scite or xenomorph sitting there
that immediately takes out the unit while it in the water. And remember - you didn't put it in the water in the first
place; the game did.
This is why I never produce the transport advancement. I wait for drop pods to make ocean crossings safely.
And yes, I agree, the aquatic segment of the game is currently underdeveloped. But improvements in that area are
promised.

Ah OK ! Many thanks for the explanation, it is indeed confusing trying to work it out in-game. Perhaps some similar wording could be put in the encyclopedia thingy ?
(In my latest game was actually trying to put a flying alien inside a Barracuda, and I couldn't figure it out - it was driving me nuts... ! It all makes sense now...)
