Isnt the game decided too early?

Post by noidea »

I have played withboth the entente and cps several times. And all of them by late 1914 the game was already decided due to the enemy having lots more units than me (too many holes). Probably that is because i usually invest in 2 or 3 labs at the beginning, but anyway, the thing is that around late 1914 there isnt much point on keeping on playing. What am i doing wrong? It seems thebest strategy (well, the only one) is buying as many units as possible early, but if that startegy wins the game, what is the point of tech investment? Or buying expensive artillery units?

Besides, Russian Empire seems to be a bit op to me. It is a giant in both manpower and industrial points which really wasnt.

Don't invest too much PP in labs when loosing the war due to open frontlines.

Tech costs range between 100 and 800 points.

(See the modding section of the forum for additional information.)
From the LUA files you can calculate that (at the moment) the 1st lab in a tech category provides 9,05 Research Points to all research projects and that the maximum is 13 points for infinite labs.
1 lab = 9,05 points (100%)
2 labs = 10 points (110%)
3 labs = 10,95 points (121%)
4 labs = 11,66 points (129%)
5 labs = 12,12 points (134%)
6 labs = 12,4 points (137%)
inf labs = 13 points (143%)

Focus on a certain tech gives +20% Research Points for that tech while research points for other techs are reduced to equal out total number of Research Points.

For a tech which costs 100 Research Points :
1 lab : 100 / 9,05 = 11 turns (with focus 10)
2 labs : 100 / 10 = 10 turns (focus 9)
3 labs : 100 / 10,95 = 9 turns (focus 8 )
4 labs : 100 / 11,66 = 9 turns (focus 8 )

So building lots of labs just gives you the starting techs 1-2 turns earlier but takes away lots of PP which could be otherwise invested in Infantry.

On STEAM there is a nice Community-Guide for CtGW with lots of pictures and details which might answer some of your questions.
