On two skirmishes I set up, I have received messages saying the players' data do not match. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you or your opponent been tinkering with the game files? This is the reason for that message.

I have not, and I've had the problem with two opponents.

I would suggest a reinstall in case something has gotten corrupted.
