Just got the game

Post by pyrrhus17 »

Well I didn't really like the combat system of FOG and was hoping to like this more ... I think systems like this make the combat too random for me There is no sense at all and seems that a combat between units is utterly random.(not based on moral equipment etc) I can have a unit flanked and out numbered and never break through it just stays on another not I can have a fresh unit charge the exact same type of unit and get blown away in one turn . (not my cup of tea ) You ability t plan attack is exactly as fog Wait for the enemy to attack then take advantage you never feel like you are really carrying out a planed attack . Like everything but the actual combat system Meh...

If you look at the detailed combat stats you'll see that it isn't just random and that morale, etc. are the basis of the combat to which a random factor is them applied - but plenty enough fixed info for sensible calculations on the course of the melee IMO. Now of course, what degree of random is appropriate is subjective. Personally I've found that in general the combats go the way you'd expect over the course of the fight but with enough of a variable factor to make things interesting through the degree of uncertainty - clearly YMMV and it doesn't appear to suit you which is a pity.
