Single Player Skirmish Play
Does the game support single player skirmish play (i.e., non-campaign) against the AI? The product page mentions the campaign and multiplayer, but I did not see anything regarding single player skirmish. Thank you.

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
There is another thread already asking about this. No single player skirmish. Just the campaign and multiplayer.
Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
Thank you for the reply. Apologies for not seeing the other thread.

Yep, no apologies needed here. I was not trying to correct you, just stating a fact. I have asked many an already answered question in my day.

We're working on adding co-op to all the single player missions, then we're going to be looking at adding randomised skirmish maps

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
So, you recommend it, Jack. We have similar tastes in games, as I've seen you on a number of the Matrix forums.
How many missions have you played so far? Is each one interesting and unique? How do the various troops feel? It looks like the unique abilities of each unit will really add some depth.
Is it just like Battle Academy with monsters? Or, would you say it has its own personality?
I appreciate any comments, since there have been zero reviews or impressions yet, on this forum or the Steam forum.

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
I've played all 20 missions, more than a few times as ell tbh while testing it, 10 from the order of the light and 10 from the demon campaign, all while beta testing the game, but have also played the gold RC version of the finished game, all are totally different levels / missions and all unique units...
some missions are easy and fun to play, some are hard and you will find a challenge but can be done if you have the right troops and set up, use the right tactics and have learnt how to master your mix of units, as support is the key to winning them all, looks easy first time you play and very simplistic to looks at, but has hidden depth that can only be seen after a few hours of play. not a game that a few mins of video may do justice to for everyone, you need to play it, fail, then re play it again and again and laugh at your mistakes, as you will make them, i did, then you learn, which is fun, then you win some, lose some, then again win some more, you can play and mission in any order but it's better to play them in number to get the story version, but if you like a certain one, you can play it and replay it as many times as you like, or if you don't like it, miss it out and still move on, but as you can edit any, that won't happen
each unit in the game is represented differently and has it's own feel as troopers, either in the land or air as both sides have units that can fly
the game has a mix of magical and none magical units of which get upgraded as they gain experience, some mission you get given units, some you buy where others you get a mix on both, or you can use the editor and alter what you have in any mission if you want... there is the option to play as the default of import the whole game into the editor and play it as you like, too easy? make it harder, too hard make it easier, like the terrain type? add more, don't like something then remove it, game engine is very open ended same as missions with editor use, something most if never used before will find fun, i did
for me the editor is the best part of the game and a hidden Gem that sparkles and if you like playing around or don't, you will love it, if you don't use editors then the 20 missions will last you long enough as they start off easy enough then go up as you get into it, oh and there is 3 tutorial missions as well, to teach you the game, so 23 tbh in all
the designers / developers have a twisted tongue in-cheek sense of humour that you will find funny and you will see as you play the tutorials, which then goes through into the game.
well that's my review....
is it balanced review? well i'm a member like you, test all sort of games from both sites here and matrix and play all types of games from war to rpg / fantasy etc and my impression is, from first seeing it, to release, it's been fun, have enjoyed the ride and all the play and testing, so thanks for letting me and now i hope you all enjoy it, i did
oh and I'm not selling it or pushing it either, that's not my job as i don't work here, just given my impressions as also i have seen no reviews as yet, but like buses they will come, and normally all at once

i could do a AAR or spam this thread with picture's, but as there is already a video out and plenty of screen shots if you look at the threads / topics etc if unit types for both sides, i'll leave that for others to do, so you don't just see my name here on everything
enjoy....

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
So far I'm 2 scenarios into the Light Campaign. You can tell it's the BA engine which is good IMHO yet the graphics give it a nice fantasy feel. The unit abilities add a lot also. For example Longbow units may take 2 shots but have a chargeable ability allowing them to fire once with more accuracy and higher chance of critical hits. Units don't seem to carry any potions or weapons like they do in 'Drums of War'.
Scenarios have the BA style.. have a clash on the road then hurry across the map to recapture a town.
The First scenario was short and easy; Second scenario was 36 turns and I ran out of time.
I can't gauge the AI yet but it seems to be attacking so at least it's not boring.
Graphics are very good with nice spell effects but you can lose some units in the terrain (like BA.)
It's the game I was hoping it would be but without the single player skirmish mode and that may show up in the future.
The editor looks impressive but I don't know what to do yet.

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
I just finished the tutorials, and played a few turns of the first campaign mission. This game is definitely a winner. All the things zakblood and jack mention are right on.
This is a very professionally made game, and I owe the developers an apology. The other day I said feared the game was going to be poop, because there were hardly any forum discussions about it, and the developers were not active on the forums. Well, I am completely wrong. Well done Hunted Cow! You guys done good!
Right when the first tutorial started, and my men were on their way to the pub for a beer after a long day, I smiled wide and was hooked. I can't wait to see how the story and the battles unfold!
I love it when my pessimism is wrong. This is a winner of a game, and I have barely just dipped my toes in.

toe dipping is fun
now jump in and learn how to swim
watch the fish mind you they bite

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
I'm buying it, of course, but am curious. Is it more "complex" in terms of tactical options than the WW2 games? The BA's are pretty straightforward to pick up. With Hell, I'd guess we'd need to learn the new fantasy rules.
Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
no rules to learn as such, but you do need to learn support, as without it, the most powerful of either side can be brought down by a few smaller less powerful units, but the tutorial does all that for you and the first few missions of both sides campaigns teach the rest...

Hi gents,Hoofmaster wrote:We're working on adding co-op to all the single player missions, then we're going to be looking at adding randomised skirmish maps
I am very interested in purchasing Hell, but the lack of skirmish battles/maps is holding me back. I'm not interested in multi-player, just in single player only ...
When will you implement skirmish maps? I wouldn¡t like to wait for a year... And also. do you have plans to add new campaigns for free or as playable DLC?
Best regards

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
well its got 20 single player missions and another 3 if you count the tutorials
so,
3 Tutorial Scenarios
10 mission Order of Radiance campaign
10 mission Demons of Hell campaign
9 Multi-player Maps Available
and all the multi player ones can be played in hot seat mode

Re: Single Player Skirmish Play
Plus one! I'll be buying a copy of the game if/when skirmish mode is implemented, but probably not beforemiki wrote:I am very interested in purchasing Hell, but the lack of skirmish battles/maps is holding me back.
