Tips for beginners?

Just bought the game because I love the Battle Academy series and I'm not that bad one with it.
But while the tutorial is easy, like a tutorial should be, I'm no enemy for the enemy in the first mission :)
I tried to split and use houses. Fail.
I tried to follow the briefing but was flanked from the back.

Clearly something I miss. I even read the manual :D

So just some tips.

Hello BerndN,

One critical part of the game is the Support/Flanking abilities, so if you are having trouble then I would advise ensure your units are in a line and able to support each other. Also, personally I fire with archers before using the melee units, as it weakens the enemy before the melee attack.

About the archers/cross bow units. Thanks for the tip. I wanted to post that I already did that when I realized that I rush in the opening turns to surprise the enemy and the archers are to far away. So I should pay more attention keeping up with the archers.

Now what do I do with the mage? When he uses his magic to give near units additional cover does it cover all units one tile away in the of the campaign?

And last one. I see that forest and buildings give some more protection. Is it worth?

Oh, there's just another question. Is there some sort of carry over from mission to mission for units?

Sorry for the many questions but not being able to archive anything in the first mission was a bit to much for my liking :)

The developers mentioned in another posting, I think on Steam, that there is no carry over of units and/or experience between battles. Which is a major, major bummer, especially since they said the mechanic is already in the game and can be used in the editor.

Why, for the love of all holy, would you put in a progressive campaign mechanic and not use it in your developer created campaigns?!? I am baffled about this one.

Great game, though. Bad campaign decision.

I did finish mission 1 and 2 but could not repeat it later again. So I will stick around the first missions a bit.

If someone has some "generic" tips, I appreciate them :)

best tip in the game is learn support and height v range...

support equals you live longer in a fight and do more damage

on your own almost means death... unless you are a higher level type unit or have good defence v attacker

height adds bonus to shots so do more damage

cliffs or hills etc

range takes away damage most of the time, so better to not do really long shots

some units can fire at longer range, but nearly all do more damage or better chance of a good hit the closer the range and skill

and finally cover, tree's and other types of terrain give bonus to cover, so use it to your advantage :twisted:

any unit in cover take little or no damage in cover, some of the time but not always, depends on attacker and type of attack

master some and you will find it easier, master them all, and you will finish all 20 missions :twisted: oh and welcome to Hell...

For the first mission (where you have no archer), I split my group about half to go south and west, while 2 units moved to the houses. This way you force the enemy to split up too and not to come out of the forest to flank your units, which won´t have enough space to fight effectively at the farm.
I played it on the hardest difficulty and lost some units, ut that´s no problem since you can´t take over them anyway. Use your mage as support and not offensive unit!
