If you notice a graphic stutter try lowering shadows...
I was getting a significant graphic stutter during the AI turn, especially during spell effects (1920x1080 resolution). I lowered the shadows setting and the next scenario played very smooth. I have to keep watching though.
I'm running 8.1 with an AMD FX-6300 6 core processor, a 1 gig Nvdia GeForce GTX 650 graphics card, and 16 gig of RAM which should be enough but something else may be slowing it down.

Hello Jack,
There may be a setting with your graphics card which would improve the shading processing. Also, please ensure you are using the latest driver for your card. Nvidia has an autodetect tool on their website, which you can get from the below link:

same as AMD does
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
for driver finding and auto updating...
The AMD Driver Autodetect tool is designed to detect the model of graphics card and version of operating system installed in your computer. Our Autodetect tool can only be used on systems running the Microsoft® Windows operating system and/or AMD RadeonTM graphics. It does not work on Linux® systems, Apple Boot Camp systems or AMD FireProTM graphics products.

Thanks I'll check the graphics card settings but it's already running better. I'll see what happens with a larger scenario.
Re: If you notice a graphic stutter try lowering shadows...
Graphics are stuttering again during AI turn. I tried lowering the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 and it seems better, certainly playable but not perfect. If it gets worse I'll try dropping it another level.
I checked what's running and really the bulk is anti-virus and I'm not shutting that off.
Sorry, I didn't mean for this to become a 'Tech Support' thread. I thought lowering shadows had fixed the stuttering and figured the info might help someone else. Sad to say it's not the case thought.
BTW....still a Very enjoyable game!

The stuttering is unlikely to be related to graphics settings. The game stops rendering the display when there is nothing to see (e.g. the AI is moving outside of your LOS) to speed up the AI turns. We are also aware of some AI slowdown on some missions. If the game runs smoothly during your turn then your settings are fine

Thanks...fyi I see the stuttering on flapping wings, spell effects, rotating orbs and suchpipfromslitherine wrote:The stuttering is unlikely to be related to graphics settings. How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:
1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
can you link that here in a post? as it's better if DxDiag files are posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the message of the post.
as i have an idea, if you want to that is, as i'm not support, but a member like you, so thought i'd mention that first...

The first game patch that we'll be submitting to Slitherine soon has performance improvements for the AI turn as well as a new co-op mode for all the campaign missions

Cool! Thank you, Hoof. I look forward to the upcoming patch. I am also seeing slowdown and stuttering during the AI turn. Hopefully your fix will solve this problem.

I think everyone playing Hell right now is encountering this "issue" as i have seen the exact same thing happening in every lets play video on youtube on different channels.
Seems to me like the ai thinking is somehow causing the exceptional drop in framerate. I myself own a pretty powerful system and even for me everything slows down for a few seconds as soon as the ai does its turn.
Personally i don't mind it that much.

good quick fix as ever, well supported, not seen the error myself, but fixed for those who are having the slight error, so thanks
