During the Battle of Lutter one of the Catholic artillery units fired through one of their Terico units (and damaged one of my units) that was located in an adjacent square directly in front of the artillery unit. Actually, there was a solid wall of three Tericos in front of the artillery unit. Yet my artillery is blocked from firing through friendly units that block the LOS. No hills are involved. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?
BTW, I'm still trying to win this scenario on the second easiest difficulty level.

It is not a bug. The game assumes that there are significant gaps between units in chequerboard formation and allows LOS to pass between units that are diagonally placed relative to each other.genehaynes wrote:During the Battle of Lutter one of the Catholic artillery units fired through one of their Terico units (and damaged one of my units) that was located in an adjacent square directly in front of the artillery unit. Hello, I have sometimes the reverse problem, I am told that other troops or fortification prevent me from shooting my artillery at an enemy, but when I click on the LOS button on top of the screen, the enemy is clearly in the orange OK LOS zone. Why ?

Probably best to take a screenshot showing the indicated LoS and pass to Richard so he can look and see if there may be a bug or explanation.

Because processing demands would be too great (and cause performance issues) if the LOS display took into account troops, it only takes into account terrain. See manual, section 9.3.4romainpek wrote:Hello, I have sometimes the reverse problem, I am told that other troops or fortification prevent me from shooting my artillery at an enemy, but when I click on the LOS button on top of the screen, the enemy is clearly in the orange OK LOS zone. The prime purpose of the LOS display is to allow you to site artillery with effective fields of fire.

Despite his faults, Oman is still good value and a useful resource. 30-odd years ago he'd been out of print for ages and it was all but impossible to find a copy outside the university library system. Yes, his prejudices show in all kinds of ways, but as an introduction to the period he's still both useful and readable.
