Your favourite units
I thought we could gather some info about what units you love and why.
Here are some of my favourites:
Upgraded Destroyers. Pure awesome tank-killingness. range 4, high initiative, those baddies bring down Ork superheavies fast than you can say "By the grace of the Emperor, eat coherent light, filthy greenskin!"
Baneblades. Get them within 2 hexes of something that bothers you and unleash hell! It is slow but boy that mix of heavy armour and firepower is amazing!
Basilisk Armageddon pattern. Earthshaker rounds with a range of 6. Let's just say I currently have 4 of them in my core force, 3 of them with maxed out experience. I rarely touch anything Orky that hasn't received some attention by my Basilisk batteries before.
Salamander command vehicle. Not only very useful for its morale-boosting ability but the autocannon is great for finishing off enemy infantry units.
Reaver titan. Let's just say that since I added two of these god-machines to my core force my battles have become quite a bit more...relaxed. Amazing firepower, armour AND movement, what's not to love here?
Terminator Squad/assault cannon. Unlike standard infantry and even Space Marines these guys can actually survive a round of unwanted enemy attention. And they make short work of Ork infantry. Expensive, slow and no transports (yet) but very effective when entering build-up areas.

Re: Your favourite units
After SM arrived the game become too easy ("challenging difficult"). I use like 2-4 titans and some baneblades + few SM infantry squads - nothing can stand before this force. Not too interesting though. ACT 1 was way much more difficult and fun. Hope ACT 2 will be more difficult in future as well.

Ratling snipers
Best Steel Legion infantry unit on Very Hard Diffecult.
Range 4 Sniper Rifles will hit almost everything without return fire.
15 Strength and 2 Shots - 30 shots of 40 Attack Strength will do massive dmg for light infantry.
Spot 4 - you will spot a lot of targets for your arty and your own sniper rifle.

Re: Your favourite units
Mine would be :
Leman Russ Annihilator. x3 Lascannons + x2 Heavy Bolter for a total of 6 shots per tank ? Flexible in dealing with both infantry and vehicles. Superheavies and titans are a different story though..
Basic Steel Legion Infantry. Cheap and expendable. Very good for drawing Ork fire and screening your veteran units.

Re: Your favourite units
So far, my favorites are:
- Basilisks. Yeah, that is why Imperial Guard is the best army in galaxy. God of War with range 6, and - it can safely aquire experience.
- Ratling Snipers. Again, range 4 is the way to escape return fire, and that is awesome. Love to hide them into buildings and strongpoints and snipe the hell outta everyone else.
- Salamander Scouts. Yeah, 3 Heavy Bolters is the way to deal with Ork Infantry. Unfortunately, they suck as scouts, because apparently their armor is made out of wet paper.
Everything else is just mediocre. Infantry dies way too fast, Leman Russes can't deal damage for their lifes, aircraft is easily beaten by everything else (they would've been fine if they had scout move from PzC, but alas).
Yeah, and I think to have only one or two Titans in core. It just makes no sense that one battalion commander can order Titans, they're too important for that.

From a purely coolness factor, bog-standard space marine squad.
From effectiveness, Titan

Re: Your favourite units
The 5 movement range and glaives encarmine assaults of the Sanguinary Guards are awesome. They're probably my favorite at this point.

Re: Your favourite units
Blood Angels Baal Predator - Burns everything to ashes, in dire need two of them can also take on tanks.
Landraider (vs. Tanks&Superheavies), Landraider Redeemer (Infantry) and Landraider Achilles (Jackofalltrades) - Durable bada**es that withstand a lot of fire.
Terminators (Cyclone/Assaultcannon) - Don't die at once if just looked at (like, say, Space Marines... which reaaaally disappointed me, there is just no use for them tactically in this game, Steel Legion Infantry is cheaper and as durable with twice the members and they don't really deal any damage even to the lightest of Orkhordes) and able to take on a variety of opponents.
Reaver Titan - A big fat Titan, what else to say?
Shadowsword - The means against the Orksuperheavies

My favorite unit is the Rough Riders. Gotta love horses vs tanks! In all seriousness though, they are great for clearing out entrenched units and are very fast too.

Re: Your favourite units
I would have thought everything dies like bitches on very hard! Playing on challenging myself and they are useful, although i'm still in act 1.CiZerin wrote:they die like bitches on very hardJimmyC wrote:My favorite unit is the Rough Riders. Re: Your favourite units
Yeah, I did have some Rough Riders early on in my core force. But they just suffered too high casualties all the time, especially after Act 1. With the abundance of Ork superheavies in many scenarios they often were wiped out in a single turn.
Re: Your favourite units
Hey there,
I just started the basic Armageddon Campaign comming from Panzer Korps. I had to get used to the different rules here and there.
In the beginning some of my favorite units are:
Bombard
Ogrin soldiers
Leman Russ (the one costing 750)
Salamander Command vehicle
BR Pip
