[MOD Vanilla++] Download, Searching members for a small team

Post by fsx »

Hallo!

I think about to make a MOD based on the original/official version of WH40K. For this I search some poeple for a team.

main concepts:
* making a MOD based on the vanilla version: Using maps, units, graphics from the original WH40K from Slitherine.
* player represeted as the leader of an unit
* LATER: special actions (as upgrade, modification of unit parameters...) for this unit. Now the unit actions in the editor dont work - I wait for an update to use such actions.
* adding secondary objectives to each scenario
* additonal special orders with extra rewards
* adding ingame messages (atmosphere, hints for playing)
* modification of enemies actions
* some surprises

I search a person, who could write
* text in englisch very good and
* atmospheric text.
Basic knowledge in "Orkish language" and about the WH40K universe would be nice.

Orkish text from the 1st original scenario:
IDS_SCN1A_004_URKGUG C’mon then! Det’s ‘ave yer! I’m bored wiv tryin’ ta break into da Hive.
IDS_SCN1A_005_URKGUG It’s me yer after is it? Well, I’m a Nob, best of da bast! You ain’t takin’ me alive!

I search some "alpha" testers to check the new scenarios for balance, playability.

Let me know, if you have some ideas for the MOD (and a better name of the MOD).

Thanks
FSX

These are my current files (versions: MOD: 0.8 WH40K: 1.03, updated at January 22nd).

PC version (not Steam): I suggest to copy the complete original WH40K folder to a directory that not observed by Windows, like c:\Slitherine\... or c:\MOD\...
After that copy the files from my zip into the folder DATA and the subfolder "Briefings". You could play the first 5 scenarios from the 1st campaign (if you chose "counter attack").
Dont play the tutorial campaign before! Until now, it is not made to play it as single scenarios.
Status of these files is "work in progress".

If you play it, please give me feedback. Are requisition points / turns / enough? On which dfficulty level you play? Is the scenario to easy / difficult? To many enemies or not?...
If someone would like to translate the messages in real (atmosperic) english, please let me know.

I decided to place the beta and alpha scenarios both in this post: viewtopic.php?f=326&t=55731#p519018
Please, download the mod from this post.

I have been enjoying this on Challenging difficulty, it is much trickier than the base game. Conservation of forces is important and there's some nice risk/reward dynamics, similar to the Panzer Corps campaign--"Should I risk it all and go for Moscow in 10 turns? Or play it safe?"

I am confused about where my Prestige (or whatever it's called) goes after scenarios... I have finished scenarios with $2k+, only to have it drop down to 400-600... I thought replacements between battles were free.

I see what you mean about the translation, I would be happy to clean up the text if you'd like. I like how this is shaping up so far.

Thank you! Nice to hear. I was a member of the "Ostfront" team. Do you know this mod?

In Panzer Corps it is free. In WH40K not. And you dont have a chance to chose elite reinforcement.

Thank you for your offer.
I made a zip with the current text for the 5 scenarios. You could edit these files with the editor from the operating system.
If you are not familiar with the file structure, I will do this afterwards. But please, dont remove the ID-strings (first position in each line).
Feel free to add new text messages or dialogues (for creating a better athmosphere / ambiance / mood - I dont know the right english word).

Nope, I haven't played any Panzer Corps mods (other than the Unit Name Generator) because I have the iPad version. Definitely heard it's one of the better ones out there , I've thought about buying the PC version to try out some of the great mods the community has put together.

You're right, I realized after playing the unmodded campaign a bit more that the same issue exists. It's too bad, I wish the reinforcement system was more like Panzer Corps in that we could have extra units in reserve, in order to vary the forces a bit more for different scenarios--and get some use from units like Conscripts and Militia that don't seem to have a point right now.

I have edited all of the files in the attached. I didn't add any new messages (wouldn't know how to trigger them), but I have rewritten most/all of them for greater clarity, grammar and ambiance. I struggled with Scenario #5 since it is by far the most complex, I never understood the scenario triggers in that mission so it's always been unclear to me how that mission is supposed to flow. I did my best based on my two or three playthroughs of that mission.
