Geographical error/question: Gemund

Post by spacerumsfeld »

Is the space labeled Gemund correctly named? My understanding is that the town of Gemund is well south of the Schnee Eifel, basically east of Wiltz. Yet in the game it is the northeasternmost space on the map. I know this is a pedantic and idiotic point to make, but I'm just curious.

There actually seem to be 2 towns named Gemund in this region!

The larger (I think) one is approx. due east of Bastogne

The smaller one is approx. east of Monschau, as on the game map

The map is not exactly accurate. Some abstraction and manipulation had to take place to allow us the area boundaries we wanted while still being able to fit six units in any given area and to ensure the interface panels didn't obscure anything vital when zoomed out.

I think the game's current identification of Gemund as a region makes sense, even if its smaller than its southern namesake. Gemund north seems to be a distinguishing settlement of its locale while the larger southern version is less so.

Understood. I was not suggesting that the map was inaccurate because it uses town names for regions - I was suggesting that Gemund was simply incorrectly placed (like a game using a map of the US which placed Chicago in Ohio). blablah3502 actually answered my question perfectly: there actually is a small town in the northern region called Gemund, in addition to the larger one on the Our River. My mistake was not realizing there was a second Gemund.
