Congratulations to the organisers, great event, thanks guys, well done !
I'd like to give some constructive feedback guys...definitely not criticism as I know you have to balance all the eras and rulesets along with the capacity of the venue etc. and it's a thankless job which you do really well.
As a player in the 25mm FoG ancients comp, I was personally slightly disappointed that the competition entry was closed with only 6 entrants. I know of at least 2 other regular attendees who would have entered this competition if it hadn't been closed relatively early and with little or no warning catching them unawares.
Could you give some consideration to closing classes of entry on a case by case basis so that some of the smaller ones have the maximum chance of attracting competitors? I think this is particularly relevant for Roll Call as it is marketed by BHGS as an opportunity to field 'big toys'. I'd really like to see the 25mm competitions kept open for entries as long as possible and even, perhaps, instituting some 'positive discrimination' in order to nurture 25mm competition scene.
Thanks for considering my views
On the positive side, I did go into the competition supremely confident of a top six finish !

Re: Rollcall feedback
I'm not part of the organising team Martyn and hopefully your thoughts will be taken constructively.
I do know they are limited on space at this venue and although more is available the costs rise significantly.
I think the key learning point for everyone should be 'book early to avoid disappointment'. The BHGS booking system is really slick and easy to use so why leave it to the last moment?

Re: Rollcall feedback
Hi Martyn,
Thanks for the kind words on organisation – There is a huge amount of work and co-ordination to do, so it’s really good to have some positive feedback!
In terms of 25mm, we were also a little disappointed with the level of takeup, however this wasn’t because we “limited” the 25mm slots in any way – far from it, as we have really pushed 25mm for Roll Call over the past 2 years through emails, on the forums and on our website. Instead it was simply that the 25mm period had sold only 6 tickets by the time we ran out of space in the venue.
Overall we had 24 more “historical” places on offer than we had in total last time around – so there was no lack of overall places, and the AM period in 15mm was actually bigger than last year – so, no limit, just that we only had 6 bookings in for 25mm AM... which is why that was the number we therefore ended up with. Going forward we may look at some form of positive discrimination, but equally we do not want unfilled spaces when other periods have wait lists.
We're really at a loss as to why the 25mm period was smaller than last year, as it seemed to be a big success in 2014 - we also had over a dozen players who went onto the waiting list for Roll Call, and because of dropouts we were able to offer some of them slots, however there was only one person on the waitlist for 25mm and they were prepared to play 15mm and thus we were able to fit them in. Had there been 2 or more on the waitlist we could have accommodated them (as we did for 25mm FoGR) in a positive discrimination because we would have preferred a minimum of 8 in any period.
Compared to last year when we had 10 25mm players, this time we lost 5 of them and added only Dave Handley (who couldn’t make it last year).
We’ll still keep pushing 25mm for Roll Call going forwards and try to grow it – probably the best thing to do to help us with this is to keep posting enthusiastically on the this forum about how much fun the 25mm event!!!
However we are limited on space and as Pete says the surest way to fill up the Period is to "Book Early"

Don
Thanks for the well considered response.
I shall make a mental note to gee up the laggards I know next year as it would be a real shame to see the 25mm FOG scene fade away completely.
With such a small group of competitors there was a really friendly and easy going atmosphere, and with only three tables everyone was aware of what was happening with their fellow competitors. So if you're in two minds about it, give 25mm ancients a go at next year's Roll Call...it's fun. You could even do DBMM if you're that way inclined.

Re: Rollcall feedback
In a similar vein - there are already 24 entries for FoG AM at the Challenge - so don't leave it too late for that either!

Re: Rollcall feedback
Except Challenge clashes with the once every 200 years Waterloo anniversary....so unfortunately I can't make the Challenge this year!
