How to switch Torpedo Bombers from torpedoes to bombs?

Post by Longasc »

I read they have to be landed. OK.

But apparently I cannot switch my Avengers from Torpedo Bomber to normal tac bomber in the deployment phase?
Is there a button or key to switch their attack mode?

U can't do that with US Torpedo Bombers yet.

Feature is coming with the patch.

If you don't want to wait for the patch, this has also been fixed in the hotfix (see stickie)

It looks like it has been done to the wrong aircraft: the SB2C Curtis Helldiver can now be switched from torpedo to bombs - but the SB2C never carried torpedoes operationally though it could accommodate one internally - but the Avenger was a superior and stable torpedo launching platform from the outset, and very durable as well.

And yet the TBM/TBF Avenger, which could and did switch regularly between torpedoes and bombs (being used most often as a level bomber towards the end of the war, often from jeep carriers in support of amphibious operations,) is left only as a torpedo attacker in OOB:P.

The SB2C never lived up to its promise, proving poorly designed and unreliable, whereas the Avenger was so good and versatile that it soldiered on into the 1950's with the USN.

So we have the Navy's premier dual role bomber/torpedo aircraft stuck in the game as a torpedo attacker only. And the Navy's unfortunate dive bomber that never lived up to its promise, is instead in the game the switch hitter, which it never was historically. What's up with that game design choice?

You can switch them in deployment, but only if they are pre-deployed units. You cannot switch a unit that you buy and deploy. Not sure why this is so.

Take the Pearl Harbour mission. I can switch the mode of the pre-deployed Torpedo bombers. But if I buy a new one and deploy it, then the switch button does not exist.

Haven't tried the same in later scenarios, mainly because I forgot to do so :)

With the hotifx I can switch back and forth correctly, but of course only when landed on airbase/carrier, so not right after purchase.

Simple question...how was this missed during beta testing?

If beta testing and people were perfect we'd never see patches for any game or piece of software in general.

Also, remember that the last beta build was v1.5.8 and the release 1.6.0.
There were apparently a few things that broke between versions.
Updating a game is two new functionality steps forward and one step back to fix something.

Does not work for my B5N2 and the later B7A. I can switch from Torpedos to Bombs but i can't switch back. It's annoying. If have installed the hotfix.

Hm...just did a quick test with a B5N2 in Java Sea, and it did work as it should both ways for me. Did you maybe use an old save from before the hotfix?

Haven't checked the B7A yet.
