Well i seems to managed to get to the slowdowns now as well. Starting with the Spoils of War scenario in GC39 i need to play just a bit longer then one scenario for it to happen. At least i have the option to play Steam free but i really hope for you guys without this option, this get fixed soon.

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Sorry to hear that Tarrak.
One person on the Steam community discussions suggested that it might have something to do with the steam achievements, as he claims he cannot acquire any since the bug appeared. That may make sense, as the steam program scanning for when achievement conditions are met is one of the things that is constantly running in the background. That could be responsible I think.

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
I got my latest achievement on march 6th, two days after bug appeared. Since then I only run Tutorial for testing , not sure I'll get another achievement this way.HalfLifeExpert wrote: One person on the Steam community discussions suggested that it might have something to do with the steam achievements, as he claims he cannot acquire any since the bug appeared. This is totally steam client issue, I was wrong blaming drivers. Tried to change some PzC properties on Steam (overlay on/off etc.), no effect.
Finally let my Win 7 upgrade to 10. Seems it improved things a bit. Slowdowns not so harsh now, annoying but playable.
Anyway I hope you guys fix it.
Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Good Morning,
any News or an ETA from the Devs Site to fix the Bug ?

Hi,
I'm really looking foreward to the release of US Corps, but as you surely understand I won't buy a product still affected with this annoying bug.
What are your plans with debugging, especially towards the US Corps release?
Cheers

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Shame, I am convinced having had a trouble free period now that Steam is the culprit.
I note from over boards that similar Slitherine products seem to be encountering similar slow downs; Order of Battle for one.
At least the devs know where to look now.

I'm sorry but that's not related. That's a different issue.smokeybear wrote: I note from over boards that similar Slitherine products seem to be encountering similar slow downs; Order of Battle for one.

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Hello All,
I have the same problem here. I never had these performance problems before, but this happens now always after some time playing the game. I started (once again...) the 39 campaign, ongoing to 40, 41 and now at 42. Every time the game has these performance issues, I save and restart. Then it is gone for a while... Please fix this, as it is one of my favorite games. Best wargame ever.
Greetings
Panzermeyer62

We have come up with a potential workaround and are hoping to have a hotfix out to test asap.Thrawn046 wrote:Good Morning,

Good to hear, I am not only interested to see this resolved, but am equally interested to hear what you think might be the culprit, and how helpful (or not) the guys at Valve were in figuring this out.pipfromslitherine wrote:We have come up with a potential workaround and are hoping to have a hotfix out to test asap.Thrawn046 wrote:Good Morning,

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Hi guys!
I have created an EXE which seems to fix the slow downs on my side, so could you guys please try it and report back if it helps or not?
New EXE is here:
http://www.rudankort.me/PanzerCorps._zip
You need to download the file, rename _zip to zip, unpack it and overwrite the old EXE in the game's Steam folder. Then, just run the game normally from Steam client. Let us know if it works or not. Version number you see on the main menu should be 1.26 from today.
To answers some questions above - no, Steam devs were not particularly helpful, and without their support the only thing we could do is just that - a workaround. I'm pretty sure the issue is somehow related to Steam overlay, in particular GameOverlayRenderer.dll being loaded into game's process. At least, I could not get rid of the slowdown as long as this pesky DLL sneaked into the running game. And unfortunately, this thing gets loaded even if Steam overlay is disabled for Panzer Corps, or globally for all games.
What the new EXE does is, game process is essentially Steam free (with no DLLs loaded into it etc.), and all communication with Steam is handled by a separate background process. Hope it works.

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
If this proves successful, will it be put into an official patch?
Removing Overlay makes sense to do, it doesn't even work with PzC anyway
Also I hope this doesn't affect steam achievements
I remember Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations had an issue with launching on the steam version not that long ago, with v1.09, and they eventually released a patch that, if I remember correctly, did a similar thing to what you have done

Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
I am afraid i have to report back with bad news. Still slowdowns happening for me with the new EXE. Played the "The Hauge" scenario from GC40 and within less then 12 turns the game started to slow down again.Rudankort wrote:What the new EXE does is, game process is essentially Steam free (with no DLLs loaded into it etc.), and all communication with Steam is handled by a separate background process. Re: Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.
Can you double-check the version number on the main menu, just to be sure you are running the correct EXE. I'm sure you were, but just to check (and to hold on to hope for a moment longer...).
Cheers

I am afraid it was the correct version of the Exe. 1.26 Steam ... see screenshot.pipfromslitherine wrote:Can you double-check the version number on the main menu, just to be sure you are running the correct EXE. I'm sure you were, but just to check (and to hold on to hope for a moment longer...).

Don't have time for extended tests, but after 1.5 hours of playing everything is fine. Exe. works as it should. No issues so far. Thanks.Rudankort wrote: I have created an EXE which seems to fix the slow downs on my side, so could you guys please try it and report back if it helps or not?

Slowdown still occurs with this EXE after ~20 minutes of play (GC '39)
