First Attempt to create a scenario

Post by OliversArmy »

I have only had this game 5 days but I am so enthused I have tried to create my own scenario. I have created the Battle of Powick Bridge. The first clash of the English Civil War. As you will all know this was really only a skirmish involving 1000 men each side, Horse and Dragoons.
I had to create the map mainly from imagination and contemporary reports as I could find no maps. I gave each side 4 units of horse and 1 of Dragoons. This equates roughly to the 1000 men per side. When I fought the battle as Parliament I lost which matched history and strangely the casualties were about the same!
I have two questions please
1)How can I add descriptive text to the screen when you first look at the campaign/scenario? Others have great narratives and mine is blank! I have used the scenario text editor but that just puts up banners after you have selected the campaign/scenario.

2) How can I upload it? it's not good but I would love the feed back from others so I can improve.

Thanks in advance!

This will explain one way to share scenarios

http://www.slitherinebravo.net/GameWiki ... y_platform

alternatively just zip up the campaign folder and share via Dropbox or another cloud storage solution.

See http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 19&t=62582

Also, PM me and I can give you some advice, and when the scenario is ready for public consumption maybe put it on the FTP for in-game download.

Hi....
Just a quick message to wish you luck on your scenario creations. I put together a few of my own in the past, and was a little overawed at first. My first attempt's were very poor but I like to think that I improved over time. If I can be of any help, please ask. I don't know as much as others do, only the basics. I can create simple scenario's, nothing too complicated......

Regards...... Warlord156.

You can adjust the unit size so that you can have more units instead of using just 4.

I didn't realise you could do that! Thanks! that will make for a far more interesting skirmish.

Thank you! I feel I will be calling on you in the near future. The editor seems to be a very powerful tool and for a technophobic 58 year old like me it can be a bit daunting! However I will persevere :D

There is a line in the .BSF file.
SetUniversalVar("StrengthMultiplier", 100);

So if you want half the size, make it 50. 25 if 1/4, etc.

LOL.... I feel your pain. I am a 57 year old technophobe, that knew nothing when I started and don't know very much more now. But I am happy to share what little I do know.
I would suggest that you open and study the files ( a kind of reverse engineering ), it really helped me. Local Disk (C)/Users/"name"/Documents/My Games/PIKEANDSHOT.

Don't know if you know this site - UK Battlefields Trust - but I find it very useful for informing mucking around with the map editor. The url is the specific Powick Bridge site.

Thanks for all the offers of help and tips. Really useful.
I have used the UK Battlefields Trust site. I have used it in the past when drawing up terrain for tabletop wargames
