Powick Bridge 1642 and Battle of Alton 1643 ECW

I have submitted to Richard my scenario depicting the first clash of the English Civil War at Powick Bridge Worcestershire in 1642. It is a short scenario with only 1000 men per side consisting of horse and dragoons. The map is drawn from accounts, the Battlefield Trust and imagination. The positioning of Hindlip Hall is not accurate but adds a bit of colour!
This is my first scenario so feed back very welcome. Richard will upload it when he has time.

I am also working on the Battle of Alton December 1643. The idea for this came from the late Donald Featherstone's "Wargame Campaigns" book published in 1970. I have a double interest in this battle as the last stand in St Lawrence's Church Alton was led by Colonel Richard Boles who was an ancestor of my mine, it is also one of the first battles I re-created on the tabletop using 25mm models and home grown rules!

The map is an adaptation of the one drawn up by Donald Featherstone. The battle centres around a retreating scattered Royalist Army heading back to Winchester being pursued by a larger Parliamentarian army. The Royalist Army start the battle in small clumps of units scattered along the two roads from Arundel to Winchester. The Parliament troops are together and heading down the Arundel Road in pursuit.
As the Royalist Commander you have to unite your forces and turn to face the enemy using the terrain to best advantage.
The aim is to hold off the Roundheads until nightfall.
After a few more tweaks I shall submit for uploading.

I am very envious My early wargaming was with a school friend. Ruler in one hand and a Donald Featherstone book in the other!

Played the scenario last night - fast and fun little clash. The result could have gone either way, but I managed to snatch a victory.
A very good first attempt, reminded me a lot of my first scenario (cropredy bridge v1). Keep up the good work, I look forward to any other's that you make available.

Thanks for the feed back! Much appreciated. I am surprised at how well the "Pike and Shot Campaigns" system handles both small skirmishes and larger battles. Many other games of this type seem to be one or the other but this nails both.

This afternoon played your Cropredy Bridge V2. Excellent battle. I lost 60% to 55%. Nail biting to the end!

Glad you enjoyed it.... Cropredy Bridge is still my favourite scenario, followed by Dunbar (which I am in the process of improving).

I prefer to create historical scenario's but occasionally I like to experiment with different idea's.... ie my Quatre Bras scenario. I don't think that one was received too well, as it has never been mentioned or any feedback forthcoming....lol. I am also creating my own versions of the original ECW battles playable from both sides, but so far have only completed Edgehill.
