deposit/stockpile

Post by gwgardner »

I am totally confused now over the terms deposit and stockpile.

1) Sometimes int the game, the word deposit refers to resources available on a planet, but not yet produced. But on the economics screen it seems to refer to the current stockpile, or the total of mined or produced resources. Which is it?

2) see the screenshot. I just ran through about a hundred years, with no change in any of the 'deposit' entries, even though there is production in all those areas. Please explain why there is no change in the 'deposit.'

Take this with a grain of salt, but as I understand it.

Deposit
Places where you can have that sort of mining facility (some planets have a certain number of deposits of a given mineral)

Stockpile
How much of a given mineral you have sitting around ready and available for use in construction and upkeep

There is also a amount your using (I forget what term is used) that depicts how quickly your stockpile increases or decreases (technically this could be zero but I have never seen that)

As I understand it, the "Deposits" in this screen is really the "Stockpile"-- in my games it always goes up by the amount in "Result" per month. Sometimes it doesn't tick up every month because of the scale.

Since you are not really building anything, don't have a fleet, etc., the "Production" = "Result". In my games these are always different to reflect fleet upkeep costs, etc. The only thing you seem to have changing is food: Produce 240K - 110K consumed = 124K Result. So at least your food Deposits should be going up 124K per month. And you should at least be seeing your Gravitonium & Reidium going up a couple of points regularly due to the small scale. I can't explain why if no "Deposits" have gone up at all...I've never seen that before.

Thanks for the responses. The way you have described it is the way I thought it ought to work.

For a while food went up, but for probably 50 years now none of the factors have gone up. I purposely did not build anything and destroyed all ships, just to see what was happening, and ... nothing was happening with these 'stockpiles.'

After more testing, with one planet, no ships, no building, I see that stockpiles do rise up to a certain point, then no longer increase after that. Some kind of limit the dev placed in there, I guess. If its been explained elsewhere in the forum, please advise.

The stockpile cap is a multiple of your total mines for that resource.

Thank you. What is the reasoning behind implementing that cap? Perhaps that economically the mines would shut down because they are unprofitable - too much supply I guess.

More likely just to force you to stop hoarding & spend it.

and logically it makes sense. One assumes the storage facilities are close to whatever mine is producing. So that each mine built has so much storage capacity makes sense. Although a building that increases this might be good.
