Caca has my game wrapped up. It's not even worth playing the last two turns. I enjoyed the tourney while it lasted. If anyone wants to play on that lost, please feel free to reach out!

Battle Report: MarkTK37thiL (German) vs Woken (Soviet)

Turn 14: All hell has broken loose. We have taken our last turn and it is up to the gods of the dice now. Everything is on the line. We trust our cause and our sacrifices will have won the day.

Fare well

I squeaked a German victory against Woken for Round 2 on my very last move.

It was a terrific match, and I had my back against the wall for most of the game. Had it gone to a 15th turn, I think Woken could have regrouped and made the final breakthrough. He was an excellent opponent, class act, and knew precisely how to drive me to frustration- always shooting up my fighters.

Much respect for the Allied equipment.

I just realized that Woken was posting the game! His summaries were completely accurate!

The German forces struggled early on, losing air superiority and only being able to provide a nuisance. If it wasn't for a few stubborn troops that sacrificed themselves, the Soviet forces would have steamrolled through the northern advances and onto the unsuspecting Western troops. It was a virtual showdown on the southern front as both sides knew it would eventually come down to establishing a bridgehead and holding it in the final turns. His Soviet tanks made a strong push and seized several bridgeheads, making short work of the lesser Panzer IVs, Stugs, and a few Elephants and one lone Tiger. Had it not been for a few bridge engineers that provided one crafty breakout to throw the Soviet advance into turmoil, the fight would have been all but lost. A scout unit bought some time until the Soviets could craft another attack in the center.

A final push of Panthers and Stugs were able to knock off Soviet blocking forces and secure the 4th objective.

Turn 14: Red Flags are trampled into the dirt, behold the end is here. We gave it our all but it was all for not. It was a fantastic game. Best of luck in your future conflicts Commander Mark, you will need it ! As for my superiors, I lower my head and contemplate my punishment.

Fare well

The Luftwaffe could merely be a nuisance to the Soviet air power for most of the match. In the end, you'll see a pretty stretched thin German line. If it wasn't for the "F-it, imma try a Trenton attack like Washington," the Germans would have never stalled the Soviet advance to the west.

In the end, it really turned into an old Mexican standoff on the southern reaches of the river as Soviet tanks stood facing their German counterparts, knowing it was going to come down to the final turns. A well timed Soviet airborne drop pulled some Panthers away from the fight for a little bit. Never underestimate the Soviet AT/SP guns. The 3rd and 4th objectives had to be captured by Elephants, Nashorns are the last thing you want to send into the city to do house clearing.

It was a fight to the finish.

Ok guys, just got to the office.

I think I didn't get any result from:

striped_soul vs rogo727
hansstory vs PeteHat
dardalon vs misterno (this one should be on its way)

The other games were completed and we have a clear winner. I'll wait to see what happens through the course of today.

EDIT: my bad, striped_soul reported his victory. I am blind as a bat! So only two games missing :D

То lgscarlet
I play for the USSR. I did turn 12. Displaces dbackfed29 to his last hex on the south west. In multiplayer, he has not surrendered, the game is not finished. If we finish playing, there will be a marginal victory for USSR.

I wouldn't say it is unbalanced - a sample of 6 games isn't meaningful.

I asked the designers of the scenarios what would be the most balanced and engaging maps available :) of course doing paired matches would be perfectly balanced, but it would also take much longer, and it also creates the effect of people trying to replicate the strategies of their opponent... besides strategy, such as life, isn't always fair. Some slight advantages are to be expected, and a commander has to be ready for that. You can even turn it to your advantage (over-confidence plays a role).

Well it is true that a variety of reasons could explain the discrepancy between the German and Soviet win ratio (besides scenario unbalance). From the limited (statistical) population, to the fact that most people are more familiar with the German doctrine (the Soviets frequently have to utilise more unconventional warfare :P) and the the fact that those who won, are those that picked the side they're more comfortable with!
Maybe we aren't as experienced as we think afterall :D

I ask to the contenders... Do you want pictures with results as in Round 1 to be posted? Guys you choose. Congratulations to all commanders who won their battles and good luck to all!

I'll see what I can do. I was extremely busy with Order of Battle today, and I'd really like to hear back from one of the pending games which was about to end.

I can tell you this, guys: round 3 will have more time. Now that there are less games to manage we can be a bit more relaxed and give more time to people to play and think. It's getting intense now :)
