Middle Assyrians

Post by Evamike »

As seams a common practice, getting ready for the new lists. I want to change another set of rules to FOG. So will there be a mix of heavy and light chariots and or options, also the select levy and levy troops are they going to be a mix of HF and MF or all medium. Please answer what you can but if you can not I'll just have to wait for the already ordered book.
Cheers
Mike.

if you search the forums you'll find quite a few clues about the Middle Assyrians already posted.

I there fore think what I need is direction on how to use the search. I have tried "assyrian" and middle assyrian" under army design and found little of any use but a lot of un-connected material. What's the secrete.
Regards Mike.

According to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys."

Sorry, couldn't resist. Hopefully these will be a bit more helpful:

Admittedly most of these threads are referring to the Neo- rather than Middle Assyrians, but there are some clues there nonetheless.

There are a few more disconnected bits about them under the "Swifter than Eagles" topic. I don't believe you're going to find more than occasional hints and speculation, aside from a couple of semi-useful answers about heavy foot and chariots. For anything resembling an army list, we're all going to have to wait for the book.

I'm waiting to see whether to base the handful of "Protected" spearmen I've got painted as mediums or heavies, and also not sure how many bowmen to put in the second rank, although they'll probably be considered a class lighter than the front rank, based on what's been done in other lists. The armored heavies in the center of the formation are easier to figure out using the post-Assyrian "conscripts" in the Persian list as a loose guide, although the bowmen again beg the question: what base depth (H or M) and how many on a base?

Middle Assyrian infantry will be MF spearmen backed by MF bow.

For certain date ranges a mix of light an heavy chariots will be allowed.
