How to make the AI more active and agressive

Post by aurelian2 »

Hi everybody,

I still enjoy playing classic legion, but I think there is one factor that makes the game really boring after playing it for some time. The AI is for my taste a little bit to passive after a couple of turns and does not attack anymore. Is there any way to mod the AI to a more agressive behaviour :?:

Hi,

Yes, I think so, but unfortunately I have forgotten and could also be mistaken.

Thanks,

But the old wargamer site only shows what you can change about AI diplomacy. What I am interested in is to make the AI produce more armies/units and attack more often to create more combat action in the game. I guess there were some mod instructions in the old forum, but I can??t acess it anymore. Does anyone know how to get this clue :?:

This is a site that has quite a few old messages, so you might try here:

I knew what you meant about the AI, and I do think there just might be a way to do it, but I can't remember and would have to look at the game files. I am almost positive this can be done quite easily by changing some numerical values in only one or two files.

Maybe Ian or Pip or someone else will remember.

Its 4 years ago now and there have been so many way in which things worked I can't be sure. Changing the cost of units for the AI might work - I think you can set it in tweak.txt in the data directory. Alternatively you can remove the need for a population unit when recruiting troops as I think this is where the AI starts to have problems recruiting, or if this doesn't work increase the rate population grows at to make it less of an issue (pop.txt).

I'm actually there was an AI numerical value for aggressiveness!!!! Could be confusing this with another game or something else, don't know.

Over the next month or so I am going to fire-up Legion Gold and dnd do some exploring.

It's too bad there isn't much support anymore for Legion and the other good games in that string. Steel Panthers, the old TalonSoft Battleground seriies games, I believe the ancient Great Battle series, Medieval and Shogun Total War, etc. are still going strong with a large fan base. Good games shouldn't fade away and die by the roadside, and many don't.
