Army Lists

Post by Scrumpy »

Don' t take this as a complaint.....

Given the move into Renaissance & Napoleonic FoG, how will this affect the release of ancient army lists ?

Can we expect delays in them whilst some time is put into the later periods ?

Cheers

Not at all.

No. The publication schedule is fixed. Moreover, the list-writing part of the process is nearing completion for the penultimate army list book (Blood & Gold), and well advanced for the last. The list-writing process is complete for Wolves from the Sea, Swifter than Eagles, Oath of Fealty and Empires of the Dragon, and these books are in various stages of pre-production.

Another six I think.

Wolves from the Sea - Dark ages etc
Swifter than Eagles - Chariots et al
Oath of Fealty - Feudal Europe
Empires of the Dragon - All things Eastern and a very big book
Blood and Gold - The Americas
"Lost Scrolls" - TBD

Do we have any info on the lists that will be included in the 'Empires of the Dragon' book? I can find details for all the other books, but not this one!

I am curious - what period will the Samurai lists go up to? Will massed arquebus be covered in this book as it would appear from the comments on the Rennaisance Forum that their rules will start from 1650 and so miss this out.

I think that FoGR is more likley to end in 1650 than start there.

All I can suggest is keep an eye here - http://www.fieldofglory.com/catalogue/ - where Slitherine put info on future releases.

What is "Lost Scrolls" going to cover? Is that a kind of "working title" to be filled in later when you decide or did the authors have something specific in mind?

Odds and sods that didn't make the cut for the other books - hence this topic viewtopic.php?t=8989.

Is there no scheduled release of sub-Saharan African ancient lists? I realize that there is probably a dearth of historical information, but could nothing be dug up on Zulus etc...?
Later Carthaginians (853 pts)
Medieval Swedish (591 pts)
Later Achm'd Persian (424 pts)

You'll have to wait until Lost Scrolls at least for them.

The Zulu date to the 18th-19th centuries, and thus would fall well beyond the cutoff date for FoG in any case.

I think the Lost Scrolls should be offered as free downloads, since chances are the person who buys it is only going to be buying it for one army list. The nice thing about the army books as they are now, is that you can just buy the army books of the periods that interest you. I love the Crusades period, I don't mind paying $13 to get Swords & Scimitars containing all the lists of the armies that really appeal to me. But I wouldn't pay $13 to get one army list that appeals to me (say for example, one that could have been in Swords & Scimitars), and then 20 other lists that don't appeal to me, such as "Early Obscure Anonymous Barbarians of the Swampier Regions of Modern-Day Oklahoma" (an enticing list, however). However, I suppose publishing it as another book would make more money, because I imagine there are plenty of fellers out there who feel the need to own every book, whether or not they'll ever game with an army from that period. But I think it would be more chivalrous to us, your Field of Glory vassals, to offer the lists as free downloads! :D

Amazing - as even the list writers don't know what it's final lineup will be such a ststement is wholly without foundation.
