Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
Round 13: The Empire at Bay
When in 248, emperor Philippus Arabus celebrated the 1000th year of Rome, the empire still exuded strength and little presaged the forthcoming decades of crisis that almost destroyed it. But dark clouds were gathering: the Germans were massing on the Danube and the Rhine, the Sasanians on the Euphrates. The army was restive and conscious of its power to make or break emperors. The following year, the Danube legions under Decius marched into Italy and overwhelmed the outnumbered legions of Philippus. But Decius didn’t rule for long. In 251 he was lost with most of his army in the traumatic defeat of Forum Terebronii (Abrittus) as the Goths overran the Balkans, the first time an emperor had fallen in battle. With difficulties, his successors stabilized the situation on the Danube and Rhine, enough that Valerian was able to turn his attention to the eastern frontier. But a similar catastrophe befell his army in the great rout of Edessa at the hands of Shapur in 260. Rome’s resiliency once again was to be tested as in the days after Cannae.
---------------------------------
FORUM TEREBRONII 251 AD
Decius engaged the Goths as they returned home laden with booty. The Gothic king Cniva had carefully chosen the marshy terrain unfavourable to the Roman heavy infantry. As the Romans broke through the Gothic first battle line, they were met with a devastating counterattack.
Note: Regular Roman infantry is now rated either armoured, impact foot/sword or armoured, light spear/sword. It still trumps Gothic infantry that is only protected impact foot/sword or protected light spear/sword in the open but the Goths, being medium foot, will be in their element on marshy grounds.
-----------------------------------
EDESSA 260 AD
With his army weakened by the plague, Valerian’s resolve and judgement failed when he was confronted by Shapur. Trying to negotiate, he was captured and his demoralized army was crushed with immense losses.
Note: note that demoralized Roman foot reverts to being fleeing poor medium foot.

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
Hormozgan 224 result from Andy's and my game,
His Sasanians vs. my Parthians, it was close but in the last two turns it just fell apart for him......
43/67 Parthians to 67/58 Sasanians
Enakan 11.6
Mcfcivo 6.4
Did someone mention a higher limit/cutoff? Didn't mean to pad it, we were locked in so many combats which ended up badly for Andy.....

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
Hi FM
My score isn't really going to be relevant (unless highest average wins, doubtful) and is certainly not right as I haven't played the other 6 scenarios.
Just a thought. I don't mind playing catch up, got time on my hands (bit bored really) and having 7 + games on the go is OK, did it in the past in leagues. SO any chance of playing previous 6 scenarios x 2 agst the guys. A suggestion is to play aginst an opponent who was very unfortunate in one of the scenarios and so boost his overall score. Just wondering how the rest feel?

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
It’s the per game score that counts. That allows people to join without having to worry about number of games played. Having to play the games you missed would mess up with the flow, and there’s already a ton of games that are behind schedule.ericdoman1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 2:08 pm Hi FM

Mons Graupius
Londo (Romans) 56/68 - Ian (Caledonians) 99/98
We actually played this one twice! First time was a draw, but neither of us posted the scores, so after Slitherine wiped old games recently, we had to have a rematch. Thanks for both games, Ian.
Londo 10.1
