Dubious Honour :(
Well, in three attempts so far with Iberia (but only a few turns in!!) I've managed to take bottom spot on the CDR each time!

Re: Dubious Honour :(
Make sure to invest in Culture production and buildings, although I admit I don't remember how much Iberia is able to do that at the beginning.Blathergut wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:23 pm Well, in three attempts so far with Iberia (but only a few turns in!!) Although you definitely don't want to be in the bottom tier, and it is very nice to be in the top tier, it is important to remember that it is OK to be in the middle and just maintaining it. Sure it is not ideal for winning the game.

Re: Dubious Honour :(
Am just puttering to learn the game. Iberia is not going to be a massive empire anytime soon!
I have figured out how to recruit and combine troops into armies. I've even managed to have troops desert!
We've also learned to sneak peek at enemy armies so we don't run into something twice our size.
But seriously, have enjoyed the miniscule bit I've played so far, compared to another unmentionable game recently. A very special thank you to the design team for ALL the help and info in various places. Someone must have been driven crazy putting in tooltips everywhere!!

Is that the caucus Iberians or the Spanish ones?
I tried the Spanish ones and was at the bottom of the cdr rankings in two turns (not to mention plague hitting the capital on turn 1 and an epidemic outbreak on turn 2) took me till turn 25 to scrape my way out of the bottom third of the rankings.

Spanish ones.
Am about 50 turns in. At one point I was up to 46. It was glorious.
Then a war in the north against Celtiberia and a couple others plummeted me back down to the bottom and despite 2-1 advantage in troops, the Celtiberian leader slaughtered me. Am assuming it was his modifiers and such (I haven't tried learning that yet!).
I am in the top 3 with legacy. That must be good for something!!!
I'll go back to before the Celtiberian War tomorrow and dive into leaders and how they affect combats.

Hey, you should go decadent! You'll be one of the first (aside from me, I have all achievements
) to get the Steam achievement 'Decadent, me?'.
Seriously, experiment with an old or decadent nation. It has its charm... Well, sort of. At least you'll know what it is like to be in this state.

I'm still playing the first game and began right at the bottom of the CDR and stayed there the first 10 turns. Now I have peace for the first time and I'm slowly crawling up the ladder investing a lot in culture. I play as Britonae. I think it's quite normal to begin at the bottom.
