Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
I have encountered this behavior multiple times and with both fleets and armies. The latest instance happened the other night between opposing armies. My interpretation of what I am seeing are 2 opposing armies in regions that are next to each other. They are both given orders to enter the other's region (in hopes of having combat), but instead they pass through each other and swap positions with no combat occurring at all. I assume that they are both moving in to each other's region on the same impulse, but this doesn't feel like this is intentional behavior. Is this WAD, or a bug? I apologize if this has been brought up before, but it keeps happening in my MP game.

I think it only happens if they move at the same speed into a region that had equal movement costs. I set an order like this with my fleet once and wondered how they were going to determine who was attacker and who was defender. Turns out there was no combat. I think that's working as designed because if combat occurred in perfectly equal conditions whoever was made defender would have felt hard done by.choppinlt wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 1:24 am I have encountered this behavior multiple times and with both fleets and armies. Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
There is a difference to make between fleets and armies. Army, if they moved opposed to each other, one should repulse the other. If you are sure it did not happen, then identify the turn before the actual movement, then:

Between fleets:
2 fleets can sail past each other, that's on purpose. No radar yet.
2 transport fleets should not engage against each other, if there is no warship at all in between the two.

Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
Is defender attacker chosen by army size. Or if one army is faster than the other and they both start in their own territory, does the faster army get there first and become the attacker?Pocus wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:52 am There is a difference to make between fleets and armies. That's based on combat power

Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
Hi Pocus, what makes the issue double frustrating is that it’s happening in my MP game. So there’s no file to send.
I can confirm my interpretation because the enemy force is human controlled and we were both scratching our heads.
And just to confirm, there’s never a speed difference between armies and/or fleets, correct? In other words they all move at the same speed just some forces can march further during the turn, correct?

Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
Also a few turns back my army was given orders to move and attack a region, but they were intercepted by the enemy first. The real oddity was that I won the battle yet my army halted with out completing any of its movement orders. Same war against a human controlled force.
Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
A battle should not halt movement, I searched in the code and there is no such thing. What can stop movement is being repulsed by an army in opposed direction, being repulsed by local patrols, disembarking, losing intercept target.
Yes about 'movement speed', it works as you said, to improve synchronization.

Re: Enemy Fleets/Armies Moving Through Each Other
Great, thank you for the confirmation. I'm at a bit of a loss.
These things don't come up all the time, but I wanted to start to bring it up in case others were having these issues and could be patched, if there was something I could do, or perhaps there is nothing to do because this game file got corrupted some how.
