Division C
rs2excelsior (Lydian) beat Barrold713 (Urartian with Scythian allies) 60-38
A hard-fought battle, where the Lydian lancers weren't able to simply sweep away all cavalry opposition before them. While the lancers on the right flank chased off their counterparts, the Urartians--backed up with their nomad allies--deployed a strong force of cavalry and heavy chariots on their right which broke the left flank cavalry and medium foot supporting them. The infantry battle started off poorly for the Lydian army, with the Urartian archers raining arrows on the advancing Lydians and the force of Phrygian medium foot charging forward on the right of the hoplites into the rough ground, to be broken by the Urartian medium foot. However, things turned around quickly once the main line of hoplites became engaged. The lightly-armed and armored Urartian forces were unable to resist the Lydian phalanxes, which rolled over the bowmen with relative ease. The victorious Urartian/Scythian cavalry from their right wing was unable to wheel around in time, and found their infantry already broken and Lydian spears waiting for them. At that point it was just a matter of chasing down routed and fragmented units until the 60% rout threshold was reached.
A screenshot of the final position where the main infantry battle took place, with Lydian hoplites mopping up the remaining Urartian infantry and turning to face their reinforcing cavalry: Good game to my opponent. You put up a hell of a fight, and it was an uphill battle. Unfortunately the terrain was open enough that my hoplites were able to finish the job with their spears. Your right wing coming back into the fight 3-4 turns earlier might've changed the outcome--or at least extracted a much higher cost from my army.

oscarius (German w. Gallic allies) beats lydianed (Persian) 53 - 8.
The Persians lacked the firepower to make much of a dent in my warbands due to the narrow frontage the map offered. I was able to catch his cavalry via encirclement. A fun match.

I just had this mental image of a deposed monarch walking down the wrong alley and getting mugged. "Look, he's not on his camel today! Get him!" "Quick, kick him while he's down!" "Take his shoes!" "Ah shit! He's figured out how to fight on foot, run!"

Schweetness101 - Andalusian 756-1049AD defeats nyczar - Dailami 928-1055AD with Khorasanian allies 821-1003AD: 49 - 22
Andalusia started with a nice big hill on the right, superiority in ranged with more massed archers, and a great mass of spears with some lancers making up the main line. Some cheap Andalusian light spear cav hiding in the woods came out later as well. Dailaimi foot plus elephants made up the main section of the Khorasanian line on their left and middle, with a large number of armored horse archers of various types on their right. A few Andalusian massed archers, light archers, spears, and a bunch of light horse and some lancers on the Andalusian left side met that right flank of Khorasanian horse archers and sort of held them off (losing slowly anyway), while the main Andalusian force defended a large hill from a great mass of Dailami foot and some elephants. The elephants and Dailami took a lot of ranged casualties and had to attack uphill at disadvantage, and so did not really manage many disruptions on impact. Their left flank was vulnerable to hidden Andalusian light spear cav that emerged after the lines had met, and so the Dailami were folded up from that side. Andalusia started with a significant terrain advantage that would have been difficult for Khorasanians to overcome, especially considering inferiority in ranged more or less forcing them to attack.

Schweetness101 - Andalusian 756-1049AD defeats paulmcneil - Viking 900-1049AD with French allies 888-1049AD : 40 - 9
The map was bisected by a large rough terrain stream. Andalusia filled it up with medium foot and massed archers, and the Vikings didn't have any medium foot, so it was kind of decided at deployment. Vikings did the intelligent thing though and deployed in a great mass square on one side (their right) with light foot in front to cross as quickly as possible, but those light foot were met with massed archers and light horse and driven back and routed, making a quick crossing impossible, leaving the vikings with almost no ranged troops remaining while they faced a great rough terrain redoubt of irregular foot and massed archers to attack.
