The objectives need to be made more common sense

Post by ronehjr »

Why in year 246 BC, playing as Rome, I am being given the objective of conquering Armorica, which is at the most western point of Gaul?

Update 1.04 added dynamic objectives.

From what I understand the weighting is for closer objectives, but random, to your territory but there is a small chance for a random objective that is outside the norm, farther away etc.
I think this is a good thing as the old way used to be rather boring as objectives were constantly next door and the same regions game after game.

Remember this is the emperor or senator, leadership wishes basically, should this not have a bit of crazy in there as there was in history?
It is not intended to be what we desire, want as a player.

Role play a bit and figure out if your generalship, leadership can obtain what the nation desires, part of Gaul in your case.

That's just my 2 cents on the subject.

good luck

The nation owning it should be neighboring your own nation. Is that correct?

I still get regularily objectives in Britain or Colchis when I am playing as Rome while I haven't even conquered all of Cisalpina/Italia yet. I have tried to understand the logic how objectives are generated, and have come to the conclusion it is in some cases absolutely random.
There are three kinds of people, those who can count and those who can't.

I oftentimes find my objectives might be a neighbouring nation but most of the time on the far side of their territory, making me having to conquer useless regions just to get there. In the last couple of games i've played i have had to forget about objectives since they have always been too far off and all concentrated in different directions and nations.

" i have had to forget about objectives"

I hate to forget about objectives because if I remember correctly I get legacy points. But if they are out of reach, I do ignore them.

The good news is, with the new diplomacy system, this is not so much a problem now. You can usually rid yourself of unwanted objectives by making a gift of relinquishing them to nation they are in. You could even ask for something in return, but by making it free the odds of acceptance are 100%.

Afterwards the game will assign you a new and hopefully better objective.

But don’t we get penalties for relinquishing an objective ?

OK slight modification to what I said above, which I just discovered ... if the nation really really hates you, sometimes the chance of a gift relinquishment of an objective is less than 100%. In which case, you might have to sweeten the deal a bit to get it to 100% (ie, throw in some money or metal or something).
