if you install as admin and run as admin it sets up the correct file permissions to pass your firewall etc automatically if you don't, then on some AV and firewalls, it won't

I have a bunch of Matrix games and this is the first persistent problem I have had with the updater.

I wii see if run as admin makes a difference.

No joy with run as admin.

Have never had an issue with a Slitherine/ Matrix game updating with the updater before and this is a seasoned rig which leads me to suspect it is this particular game.

I'm sorry but your assumption is wrong. This is never related with a particular games as the update infrastructure is the same.
Usually this issue is caused by the interference of a Internet security program (a firewall, an anti-virus, an anti-malware, etc.) with the game update feature. Please check if any of your Internet security programs is interfering with the download from our ftp servers.
Alternatively, you can manually download and install the updates from your account's download area or from the game’s product’s page.

Disabling my anti-virus still did not allow the updater to download the file.

I understand what you are saying. My first reaction was the same but I have been with Slitherine and Matrix a long time and have a number of games and have not previously ever had any issues with using the updater and there have been no changes to my rig or system or anti-virus (have never needed to disable it before) so, I thought it might not be my system but might be something new with the updater or the game itself (I didn't know for sure that all use the updater the same way and it is the same old updater).

I downloaded the 1.2 g .004 update from the product page. Thanks for the directions.

I bought directly from Slitherine rather than buying from Steam because I know Steam takes a cut. The nice thing about Steam is that they update the program automatically.
