Merging Units with transport?
So I have been trying out splitting and merging and either I am doing something wrong or the ui is showing wrong information. If I want to merge units that need to move via transport , will it not work at all? Because I have clicked to merge quite a few times which just leads to the unit moving but not merging. It will just wait next to the other unit.
Re: Merging Units with transport?
That's one of the bugs that haven't been dealt with. See the 4th and 6th posts on this page: viewtopic.php?f=464&t=97527&start=60
You can merge the units again through manually mounting the part you want to merge with the part that moved away in a wagon/truck/half-track, otherwise the second half will indeed move by foot in the direction of the mounted half.

Unfortunately doing that also prevents them from deploying; if the original unit is deployed it'll revert to a transport instead. Very annoying when you're trying to form a defensive line.
Mildly pretentious Swede. Goes by Path on most platforms, including Steam.

I was just about to edit my post to mention that, but you have superior Initiative.

Re: Merging Units with transport?
Thanks for the explanation and workaround.
Is there a way to work around the following situation?
The first part of the split unit has moved and dismounted, the second unit should merge with that unit, but it is more than one tile away, so it has to move via truck to that position? So far it does not work for me.
I also don't understand the merge behavior at maximum distances. I split a tank unit and one half has already moved the maximum tiles so that the other part could still merge with it. Then I click to merge, but the tank only moves to a tile next to the other half...And for some reason I can't even undo that move, although I have chosen unlimited undos for moves.

Re: Merging Units with transport?

There doesn't seem to be one, sadly. This is what I was referring to in my original post -- the only way to merge them then is to mount them and move, but then the already deployed unit will be forcibly mounted too when they merge.pewp3w wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 7:09 amIs there a way to work around the following situation?

Re: Merging Units with transport?
When I was doing my previous run with positive traits, I moved infantry units as single units most of the time due to how frail they are in general, and even more so when split.
(Half-)Tracked units tend to have enough mobility to merge in a convenient manner.
One thing you can do until this is fixed, is have the infantry half "behind" the other half leapfrog it to a hex where it can deploy and that the other half can reach by foot. That way, you can still move forwards when merging units.
The example you mention for tanks should never happen if the half you're moving into its counterpart has enough MP's to move into the hex. That might be another bug.

If merging would require truck movement by one half without being able to deploy, the result will always be a mounted unit, regardless of the sequence of movement used for the move. Crossing non-Clear terrain, for example, will require mounted movement for trucks in many cases unless the destination hex is real close.pewp3w wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 7:09 am Thanks for the explanation and workaround.
