Traps
Is there an in depth guide on setting up traps? I do ok setting up air traps, with bombers or some juicy artillery, but struggle with setting up vision ambushes. Any advice on this? I think I push too hard sometimes and always try to get the most ground covered as quickly as possibly. Perhaps it would be cheaper prestige wise and easier if the enemy broke themselves on artillery backed positions. Thanks in advance!

Re: Traps
Soren has the uncanny knack of knowing exactly when the ai will come out and attack where. His playthrough on Manstein has stunned me

I think you said already "I push too hard sometimes and always try to get the most ground covered as quickly as possibly".
You need to be more patient. Few advises include,
A. Control their vision, make it a priority to destroy their scouts,
B. Let them come to you, offer them easy targets, eg a light tank in forest, supported by artillery, a panzerjager AT etc,
C. give up some ground and let them enter, eg a victory hex a perfect trap to kill a tank
Finally, watch some Braccada, Richard Martin and other veteran players you tube videos, you will get perfect ideas their are the masters in setting traps

Re: Traps
Not sure what difficulty setting you use, but note that it is much easier to trap AI units when playing at 'General' level or above as the AI is more aggressive at AI Level 2 and will often leave a well-entrenched, hard to attack, artillery and AA backed position to attack a 'bait' unit whereas at lower AI levels, the AI will just sit and wait. This often makes it easier/quicker to take positions on higher difficulty levels instead of having to keep whittling away at their entrenchment in order to attack.
Re: Traps
All good help, thank you.
I am pretty good about recapturing victory hexes with recon and letting the AI attack into very unfavorable odds against artillery supported units. Piatek '39 and Arras in '40 come to mind.
I've seen Braccada use his Marders as bait and StuGs as a "hard" shoulder numerous times in his '42 East Ultimate playthrough. It is very efficient and his ability to predict the AI's move is tremendous.
Air traps are relatively easy to setup the initial bomber trap, but the vision gained by the ensuing fighter is much harder to predict and protect. I need more practice. Braccada's Demyansk '41 Ultimate first turn is brilliant.
Ground ambushes are quite difficult for me to emplace. I get a few ambushes by just trying to kill recon/cavalry as quickly as I can. I then setup on roads out of vision with a juicy target en route, I just can't predict it or see it unfold.
I guess I'll just have to get better!

Re: Traps
I am an hour and a half into this outstanding breaking of the map. I have already played this on Ultimate, and I would not be able to mimic his army as I do not have units with 4 stars beefed up like he does, but my goodness he really impressed the importance of having strong StuG's to deter the enemy from being brazen in their attack.
I look forward to showing what I was able to do to tackle this map.
It is not easy, but nothing is on Ultimate
