Future team events
Hello everyone, we are only halfway through the Ottomans, but I hope to run a further event once it finishes. I know that our Kiwi Captains have some thoughts about the theme and other special requests welcome.
I would also like to return to China with a Sengoku Jidai event, which we have run twice before. It is a terrific game, with great atmosphere so if you do not own it I suggest to buy it now while it is on sale at just £6. The Mandate of heaven dlc is a must. The Sengoku Jidai gold edition on Steam is the best value I think.

Re: Future team events
Alan,
I am currently playing a series of games based on Prussia. There are 5 historical battles against Austrians and French, and skirmishes can be fought against various armies that fought against the Prussians as well. The historical battles are often very evenly matched, and a couple have objectives to capture which adds a bit of a twist to them.
While outside the historical pike and shot period they are still highly playable, and something different.

Re: Future team events
I will join any Pike&Shot tournament. I'm not too picky
I think that the "Someone vs someone's enemies" formula works really well. I think we could use it in the future, we just have to pick a country that had a diverse pool of enemies. Or better yet, a dynasty.
Maybe "Habsburgs and their enemies"? The players of the Habsburg side wouldn't have to play as just one country having Spain and Austria/Imperial to choose from. The tournament could start with the Italian Wars in round 1, round 2 (Tercio to Salvo) could give enemies an array of army lists to choose from, round 3 could take us to early to mid-stage of 80 Years War, and the tournament could finish at round 4 in late stages of 30 Years War against Sweden and France. But we could take this even further and have later rounds against the Ottomans.
My other suggestion would be using Northern Wars as a historical background for our turnament.
Round 1 I Northern War (1563-1570)
a) Optional round based on Polish-Swedish war, could be a scenario battle
Round 2 II Northern War (1655-1660)
Round 3/4 III Northern War (1700-1721) A scenario battle depending on how the previous rounds went.
What do you guys think?

Soor 30 Sept 1745 against the Austrians absolutely nailbiting battle normallyKiwiWarlord wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 4:35 amWhat are the dates for these skirmishes and scenarios please Andre.
Kesseldorf 15 Dec 1745 against Austria and Saxony
Kolin 18 June 1757 against Austria again
Gavelotte 18 August 1870 against the French.
Sedan 1 sept 1870 against France, the French are holed up in Sedan surrounded by the Prussians and more Prussians keep arriving....French have to decide whether to defend the town or try to break out, another gripping battle

Both suggestions are good. I was looking at the Northern Wars today trying to put a Polish set of games together for Andre as he is a Polish FanaticVeles wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:33 am I think that the "Someone vs someone's enemies" formula works really well. I think that the Habsburgs idea would stretch to 6 games no touble. Keep us all happy for 6 months

How say you Fellow Eventers

I'm liking the sound of the Habsburg event.
I'd also be interested in some Italian Wars action, have they been done before as a campaign?

I'm glad you guys like my idea.
And yes, totally. The Habsburg thing can be stretched out almost indefinitely. I only presented the "light" version of the idea.
Well, Andre is definitely not alone. As for the Northern Wars, the only problem with them is forming sensible teams as some of these wars were more of a battle royale kinda deal. We could also supplement them with other closely related conflicts. Like the Times of Troubles, Polish-Swedish Wars, and the Scanian War.I was looking at the Northern Wars today trying to put a Polish set of games together for Andre as he is a Polish Fanatic
Come to think of it. "Poland and her enemies" could also work pretty well as Poles were surrounded by enemies on all sides and constantly at war with them. With Extra Nations we could get a ton of different matchups, everything from Teutonic Order, Crimean Khanate, or Wallachia to Habsburgs, Swedes, and Russians.
Re: Future team events
I also like the Habsburgs idea.
Re: Future team events
Thanks for all the positive and interesting suggestions. It will be hard to select one, but they all sound good.
So we have:
- Habsburgs and their enemies
- The Poles and their enemies
- Prussia at war, using the excellent scenarios available which, as Andre says, make for excllent games
- A Northern theme with Swedes, Russians, Poles etc, overlapping a little with the second.
- Renaissance Italian wars
I will be happy to run another event and we can maybe run a poll to see what is favourite, though I sensed from the comments that the Habsburgs would suit everyone.

Re: Future team events
Well Alan the Ottoman Event is nearing completion and there are many Champing at the Bit for the next Event.
Maybe something could be sorted and kick off in March / April ?
I know we have just started the Emperor's Throne Event in Sengoku Jidai so you have a clear desk top
Maybe time for some serious discussion on this thread ?

Re: Future team events
I vote for Prussia, 5 great battles, and I believe a 6th is being worked on.
But if the vote goes another way, or Alan simply makes an executive decision I'm most happy to play in it.
But whatever is decided I get to choose which side my team is on, Brian has won the last 2 events by a rather large margin, so its only fair.

Re: Future team events
Personally I do not really enjoy the 7 Years War scenarios, and would sit that out. I am enjoying the format of a mix of both random map and scenario matches.

Re: Future team events
I am enjoying the 7 years war scenarios and think they make for excellent games. However, I can equally see that they will not appeal to all as they feel, rightly, very different to earlier periods.
I would like to find a format that everybody liked, and I would not exclude running two events. After all, one game a month per event is hardly a big commitment.
For other periods, possibilities might include:
- Dutch wars of independence
- A Russian theme, with Poles, Swedes, Turks, Cossacks etc as opponents
- Italian Wars
Andre, quite happy for you to select your side. Thanks to you and Brian for your support in organising the events, testing match-ups etc. That helps a lot.

I don't pick sides Andre, they are allocated as are the team members.
This is not a competition between you & I so I will step down from being a Team Leader.
