Division A
Geffalrus (Antigonid) defeats harveylh (Gauls and Samnites) 49-18
The Antigonids took an early lead in the skirmishing fight, but the Gauls caught up after their Samnite allies stormed the artillery hill on the right and swarmed the thureos and lancers on the left. Unwilling to wait for the Gauls cheeky chariots to arrive in their rear, the Antigonid phalanx surged forward to attack in the center. This time around, RNGesus was with them in them in the impact phase, and pikes could proceed to stab the warbands to death in the melee phases. The 96 point veteran pikes more than earned their keep when they broke multiple warbands in a row, causing some cohesion cascades. Good game as always to harvey - this time around, I just got the good luck at the right time.
The final clash of pikes and warbands begins.

Division D
Captainwaltersavage - Achaemenid Persian 480-461 BC with Greek 680-461 BC allies defeats Conteshard - Armenian Tigranes 83-69 BC with Pontic 84-47 AD allies 43:16
As might be expected from these two armies we set up on a dusty plain divided into two levels - low and flat on the left and on the right (in an almost equal split of the battlefield) a raised plateau with lots of rough areas and and some woods. On the far left was a small hill with rough to its front (closer to me). Expecting a lot of cavalry I brought the Greek spears and plenty of my own cavalry. I decided to press forward across the high broken ground on the right, using my sparabara and immortals to dominate the rough areas and the spears dodging through on the clear sections. Also hoping I might get some heigth advantage battles looking down from the plateau. All my cavalry provided support on the far right wing. I decided to hang back on the left as it would be touch and go whether I could reach the small hill and I would have nowhere to go if I took it. The Armenians brought a wide selection of troops but put most of their cavalry on the high plateau, supported by some medium troops and all their heavy troops (phalanx, warband, legionnaries) looked keen to crush me on the plain. It all went right for me. The bow armed troops peppered the Armenians and started disrupting units, both high and low. A deadly phalanx on the lower plain was flanked when my reserve pounced from the edge of the high area. The enemy Cataphracts and cavalry were variously shot at, ZOC locked, by archers in rough ground, or by the Greek spears. An early break of some cataphracts caused disruption on another two cataphract units and it was then a race to see how many units I could kill before my weak left collapsed. The game was over just as the Armenian general burst through my left flank and that good timing meant the Persians survived relatively intact. A great game to finish - made me think that I might be getting the hang of this army setup. Great fun once again. Looking forward to the next season already.
