Cavalry recon as an infantry unit means you can't upgrade them for their role, meaning they're sort of a dead-end specialized unit, and as such any XP you gain on them either goes towards a future infantry unit or stays on them.
Having the upgrade path is a compelling reason. You have convinced me.

In the wargames I played, the cavalry was still considered a unit of the infantry class.

Alright so I think we need to really see some expansion to the infantry roster in the game. Obviously there is a lot of interesting vehicles we could see but Infantry is the most limited roster within the game.
We need some more unique infantry within the game! So here's a couple

Soviet Assault Engineers
These guys would be excellent to implement as they are iconic with their body armor. They would specialize in CQC combat and could be the late war version of SMG infantry like 44 and beyond. It would give the Soviets a special squad that is truly a monster in close combat. I would imagine one of the highest close defenses combined with strong soft attack and also some traits like bunker buster.

German Panzergrenadiers
There would be a late war extension of cavalry. They would be a mix of infantry and a halftrack that is naturally combined with in the unit. With high movement and being able to strike at far away gives them a unique advantage over other infantry units. Something like 5 mechanized movement points and stats around grenadiers seems like a good mix but obviously with a higher core slot. They could appear around 1942 and then have an upgrade late war in 44.

Beyond those 2 I would also love to possibly see a split of the current elite infantry in the game. Soviet Guards, US Rangers, and a couple other units essentially have to be strong late in the war but also show up in 41 and 42. I would rather have the standard version be changed to be capable in 1942 and then have a 1944 version that remains powerful later into the war.

Although I hope we see a bigger infantry rework in the future but some diversification would be great to see.

I don't really see a point in that. We already have assault engineers in the game, they are called engineers. They already do represent the combat-element of engineers, as the bridge-laying and similar stuff is dealt with by the bridge-engineers. Panzergrenadiere are nothing different than regular troops or Grenadiere. The term Panzergrenadier was a name-change, nothing more. Grenadiere already cover them well enough.

There simple weren't all that many sorts of infantry-types, and those that do exist are already covered in the game, outside of maybe ski-troops. Jäger are also missing, but those would be somewhere between regular troops and mountain troops, thus not having much of a role to fit.

I disagree that they don't have a purpose. I think offering more unique and standout infantry that is different from other nations would be interesting help to diversify the nations. Assault Sappers within the Soviets could become the close terrain kings. It's an extension the SMG infantry already in game which is meant to show off the powerful close terrain combat of Soviets troops. However later on in the war SMG infantry lose some of that power as other units get upgrades. Not only would Assault Sappers be iconic due to the use of body armor but they also could help to the Soviets keep their potent CQC options. In the future of DLC these units could be one of the big threats in future big city battles like the various sieges in 1944-45.
Do engineers already kind of do that? Sure I guess but they are the exact same among all factions rather than unique stuff like the SMG infantry. Why not just remove the SMG infantry if engineers exist if the argument is that engineers already cover the CQC role? Units can share roles but still be useful.

I don't see any need for diversifying infantry when such a thing didn't exist in reality either. If anything, the infantry is already more specialised than it truly was.

There isn't really a need to have another engineer unit as close terrain specialist, much less one that is special to one nation. We already have engineers for that, who represent everything such a unit stands for, and they do have slightly different abilities across the various nations.

I never said that engineers cover the close quarters combat role, that's something only you said. I said that engineers already represent everything combat engineers were. Adding combat engineers to the Soviet Union, when they are the very thing engineers already stand for, doesn't seem to make any sense. Even more so when you consider that the Soviets were hardly the only ones who had combat engineers, nor did they have a unique ability in close combat. Adding combat engineers when engineers already fulfill the role of combat engineers is about a useful as adding SS-infantry. There would be no difference between regular infantry and SS-infantry beyond the uniform, just like there wouldn't be any difference between combat engineers and engineers, as the latter already are combat engineers.

Ok I've been mistaken. I looked at the models more closely but never realized they were wearing the SN-42 body armor since it blended in with the green uniform so my idea is pretty much already there.

However, I'm curious as to what you think of something like Naval Infantry from the Soviets? Or something like the SMG Infantry? They are essentially minor alterations of the basic regular infantry. They are mostly there to add a little flavor or in the case of the SMG infantry a unit that is more fearsome in CQC. Are these good for the game or would you rather see less stuff like that?

Yeah they are already in the game but I'm curious as to what you think. They are just slightly weaker regular infantry that doesn't add much to the gameplay and is essentially just a falvour unit. Do you think units like that would are worth including? Or should units only be added if they can offer something unique/different?

im all for flavor i lke that historical touch and its simple if people dont want to use it cuz its weak they just dont buy them, ive seen people writing that they just use gabirsjagers and pioneers as infantry cuz they are better, bur most of my infantry is standard where-infantry supported by pioneers

I hope that the Guards43 will have, in addition to an update of the statistics to make them suitable for the last years of the war, also an updated 3D model, in particular a helmet instead of the conscript cap!

The game has been on the market for almost 2 years now and we are playing it with enthusiasm ...

...But now the time has come to help the modders a little. We want to take the game to a new level and adapt it to our own needs with our own 3D models. For this purpose, we want to bring our own 3D models into the game due to the beautiful graphics and the historical correct use of certain weapons and devices. (Post from 22.07.21/ Mr. Patrick Ward asked why we have these needs ...)

My example: I am currently working on an Italy-Greece (1940) scenario and a Bersaglieri motorcycle (MotoGuzzi) is missing for Italy and a 65mm M06 mountain gun is missing for Greece.

In a nutshell: We need step-by-step instructions on how to bring a 3D model with movement and sound into the game. Or is it a secret... why?

Please support for new 3D models!

In the meantime we can assign them a red camo coat to make them stand out, and also give other units various camos too-

Below: Default German Grey-

Below- camo'd up; red=Flame, black/white=Recon, stripey=anti-tank, tan= Artillery, blue=Aircraft-
