Captainwaltersavage - Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203 BC with Samnite 355-272 BC allies defeats joggy - Gallic 300-101 BC with Samnite 355-272 BC allies by the skin of my teeth 61:57
A very tough match indeed. The Gallic horde came surging forwards while the Carthaginians tried to hide in some rough ground and keep the Gauls away from their flanks. The hope was to win in the centre while fending off both flanks - quite optimistic as it turned out. My left flank was shattered quite easily but did slow the onslaught. My right flank held for a long time and only collapsed in the last couple of turns. My centre took a kicking from the warbands and even my Veteran spears were going down under the waves of barbarians. My flanking cavalry were crushed by the gallic cavalry and their damned chariots. It was all looking very bleak and then their was the sound of trumpets. Victory for the Carthaginians came in the form of a small herd of elephants. They started on my right centre charged down a hill at a warband dodging the rough ground all about and then Nellie and her friends smashed their way downhill, uphill, back towards the centre of the Gallic line, down another hill, got fragmented, then charged in the flank, survived, rallied, broke the offending infantry and then charged another unit and finished the game still fighting and beating up another unit of Samnite warriors. As Joggy said - That one elephant unit won the game for me. That'll do Nellie, that'll do.

Well, well, at least the underpowered Greek mercenaries get a victory. I hope they get more in the rest of the games.

rpadilla1988 (German Imperial/ w SE German allies) defeats Karvon (Tuareg) 40-13
Fierce opponent, with lumpy camels and curved scimitar swords. Open ground with a copse of rocks to the north west, dune hill on the center and enclosures and pastures just over the other end. Spear points and crossbows held back the Tuareg foot, and stout were the knights; they marched forward over the dune and into awaiting footmen.
Will that town ever be the same?
GG Karvon!

Rob123 Arab Conquest defeated Warg1 German 61:58
This was a battle of initially wild swings of % routing due to cavalry that fragmented and routed rapidly for both sides. Gradually the battle settled down and it was so close for the last 3 turns either of us could have won. A good tense game. Thanks Warg1

Re: First Time Control check is next Sunday evening 24/10 . . .
Yesterday, I did something a bit different from previous seasons and sent out what I called a "pre-check" PM, section by section, to those players who have not yet registered a result. As you know, I have been concerned that slow play has been increasing over the last couple of seasons and there are also a number of major tournaments running at the same time right now. So I am also a bit worried that some players may have taken on too many matches.
Anyway, the overall situation is not too bad and I have started to receive replies to my enquiries. So thanks very much for those. As usual, I am not looking to exclude anyone, not least because it causes me a lot of extra work, and I am hoping that we do not have anyone who does not reply to me and has not posted any results by Sunday.
