Division C

Badger73 (Germanic Foot Tribes 260-599 AD with Roman 379-424 AD allies) defeated phlewis (Byzantine 551-578 AD) 62:51

A tense match with back and forth cavalry melees. Only after successfully defeating the Byzantine infantry were the Germans able to counter and stop the Byzantine cavalry.

Difficult matchup for the Indians and the Danish took full advantage which was the difference. Closer game than the score indicates. Good game.

unai98 ( Pyrrhic 280-275) defeats anderarcos11 (Roman 105-25) 47 - 60

A lot closer that the score would indicate thanks to a few rallies in the last turns.
Map was divided in two by a lake that probably saved the pyrrhic army from a disaster
after a long skirmish between lights on the left while the cavalry and infantry on the right got into position the Pyrrhic army was capable of using the over committing of roman legionaries on the right to push it’s numerically superior pikes on the left to break the majority of the roman infantry while part of its cavalry was capable of escaping of the absolute defeat that was the right.
By the end there was units of legionaries being held up behind the lines in both the left and right of the army .
surprise mvp the Italian foots on the right both holding a roman legionary unit for multiple turns in the open and beating a scutari unit in the forest stopping the entire collapse of the army
This seems to have been a classically proper Pyrrhic victory
You know, the funny thing is I actually considered saying something like that when writing the report
But yeah I cannot exaggerate just how close this battle was.
and taking advantage of this post
unai98 ( Pyrrhic 280-275) defeats ZeCid ... Macedonian 355-329 with Greek Allies 28 - 53
weird match with the Macedonians taking all the lights, the entire phalanx, two hoplites and a number of cavalry units. By contrast the Pyrrhic army had a more flexible force with both mediums and elephants adding to that the superior number of pike units allowing it’s right flank too outflank the enemy line while the left held enough for the cavalry and the right to make a pincer and shatter the Macedonian infantry.
thanks to my oponent for the match.

Division B

Kroche (Frankish 751-887AD w Saxon (Continental) 600-804AD allies) defeated

Bagatrix1805 (Arab conquest 638-684AD)

58:30

The initial clash on the Frankish left was between the light troops and was won by the Arabs helped by support from massed archers. Heavy foot met in the middle - open ground with a small area of marsh - and furious melees took place with the situation in the balance for each side. Cavalry, of similar strength, met on the Frankish right and fought a separate melee with some woods between them and the centre.

Frankish heavy foot, backed by Saxon Hirdsmen, grinded to ascendency in the centre and could then break the standoff of units around the marsh. The Frankish cavalry also won on the right, although at one stage it looked like the Arabs would win there to free their cavalry to flank the Frankish centre.

The Arab light forces remained fairly intact, routing the Frankish cavalry tasked with breaking them up, and the battle finished with the Arabs in control of that flank.

It was a really tough battle with the Franks having more of the crucial mini turning points by either rallying at opportune times or holding out in the unfavourable melees long enough for support to arrive and attack the flanks of the Muslim spearmen. GG

Division C

ulysisgrunt (French) defeated gort7078 (Swiss) 67-38. The difference in the score does not reflect the hard-fought game. The Swiss were placed on a steep hill; the French used their artillery to force the Swiss to come down and attack..
They Pike blocks were separated, and defeated in detail.

Division A

ericdoman1 Dailami 928 - 1055 with Khorasanian allies 821 - 1003

defeated

Triarii Neapolitan 1440-1500 with Venetian 1440-1500 allies

72-35 (97-35)

The game swung early on with Mike charging uphill and me charging downhill. I was able to disrupt every unit and flank and rout a pike block, which allowed me to flank and rout other units. The odds were in my favour but if Mike had initially remained steady with his units and not lost 3 generals, the game would have been a lot closer. The final nail in the coffin was me double dropping a disrupted pike block with an elephant.

Keith is away on hols at the mo so please find below a summarised divisional table format

This is the second week so all players should have completed 1 game, minimum. I am not sure about how many challenges have been made and started but again an absolute minimum of 1 should be the case.

Massive respect for Bagatrix who has played more games than all of Division A?!!

Yes, very early days with Morat standing out from the crowd with 3 wins out of 3
