I had a BG (offensive spear) that was providing overlap support to another of my BGs in combat. An enemy BG was in charge range of my shock BG that was providing overlap support in combat.
The rules do not say whether I have to test 'not to charge' or 'charge' with the Shock Offensive spear that is providing overlap support. The rules just say that they don't test to charge or can charge if they are not in "melee".
Is overlap support counted as "in melee" and therefore my BG does not have to charge?

Re: shock troops and charging
so overlap is not 'melee' even though they are fighting? Therefore the shock troops have to charge or test not to. I think this is open to interpretation but will accept as I am sure you have come across it before, Phil.

Re: shock troops and charging
Page 48 "Moving from an overlap position": "A BG which fought in melee in a previous turn as an overlap only can choose to charge a different enemy." So they can choose to charge. Then, page 56, ""shock troops who have not declared a charge need to pass a CMT to avoid charging without orders".player wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:17 am I had a BG (offensive spear) that was providing overlap support to another of my BGs in combat. Re: shock troops and charging
ok thanks. The point I had missed was on p48 that because they can charge or choose to charge then the the shock BG must also pass a CMT to not charge.
