The Roman legions took up positions on the heights, but the long-range fire of the Northern Zhou soldiers forced them to leave their positions. After winning the cavalry battle on the left flank, the Northern Zhou took the heights with cavalry and left the Romans surrounded.

A tricky mainly skirmishing contest dominated by lots of rough hills which the hoplites, legions and phalanxes all avoided as much as possible.

Map area was narrowed by a mountain range on on edge. The mountains protected one flank of each army and they both took control of their respective high ground with a few tiles of open terrain separating them. There was fierce skirmishing as Byzantines edged to within bowshot. Frankish forces left their position to engage the Byzantine Skoutatoi & Archers. On the other flank screening forces of cavalry and spear closed on each other. The battle was won in the centre as the Byzantine volleys could not cause enough disruptions before the Frankish heavy foot could engage in melee. Although the screening forces were involved in a close fight to gain an advantage, the Byzantine centre could not hold and had taken enough damage for a Frankish victory. GG

edb1815 (Gogureyo w/ Chen ally) defeated Morat (Ostrogothic w/ German foot tribes ally) 62-55

A very close and hard fought game. A fairly open field with a small patch of rough for the Korean medium foot to hide in. Initially the Gothic lancers overwhelmed the Korean cavalry but then the infantry fight went the other way as the bowmen put some key disorders on advancing warbands. The Koreans managed to defeat the weaker Goth cavalry wing and hit more infantry in the flank before the main cavalry force came back from pursuit on the other flank. Just in the nick of time for the Koreans, Gothic morale broke!

A nineteen turn slugfest that descended into a swirling melee on and between two big hills with many a flank swinging in the breeze. Thanks to my opponent for a tough game played in quick time and for introducing my Cataphracts to his Dacian Falx ticklers.

A very fun match. To avoid the storm of arrows, I charged in as fast as I could, pitting Warbands and Palatia against his less numerous spearmen. It was close for quite a while. Well fought. Thanks to Edb for the battle!

Pyrrhic army took up position on a hill and the Romans advanced to contact, however 3 units of samnite foot were able to flank the Roman right and systematically work their way along the line while the pikes kept the Romans busy in the centre.

As the score suggests, it really could have gone either way until the final turn, and I certainly had my share of luck. Thanks to mh5064 for one of the best battles I've been involved in.

The Spartans were critically short of mounted with unsecured flanks that I immediately moved to exploit but in the end, before they could make themselves felt, several adverse results along the fighting line led to an unrecoverable collapse.

Thanks to my opponents and the organizers for making this a challenging, if not always painless, event.

Questar17 Burgundian 1471-1477 AD feat English (Continental) 1475 AD allies beats SpeedyCM German (City NW) 1488-1500 AD + Low Countries 1488-1500 AD allies. 63:34

At deployment both armies front was restricted by woods on our side and a river from another. Cause my infantry is worse in melee, i decided to avoid frontal battle in narrow battlefield, and move by parts archers and longbowmen with a support of few heavy infantry to a hill placed after the woods at my flank. Figuring out that on the edge of the map there are a few opponent's troops i added to these forces two knights and started to move the forces forward reaching an opponent flank covered by the woods. So it was excelent position when my archers could reach with arrows opponents forces while be protected by knights and heavy infantry. Once arrows couldn't reach opponents forces, i decided to start to move from other flanks forward. There opponents pikes were excelent at one vs one battles, so SpeedyCM shortened points difference. At the end of the battle my troops moved from the opponents woods into the centre, having a numerical advantage could break opponents pikes after a long melee.

So it was my last tournament game. Honestly my army was quite weak vs powerful pikes (swiss, landsnekht). It is very fair that longbowmen cost has been decreased to 57 p at last DLC.

40-10. This was one of two games using silk road which I had not experienced before. Thanks to my opponent for the entertaining match.

A very close game and well played by Vadim84. The battle was fought across a stream with a patch of rough ground for crossbowmen to deploy in. The Milanese infantry tried to hold up the German Landsknechts while their knights crashed a flank. The Milanese knights defeated their opposition and came in just in time as the center was collapsing. Honors go to some dismounted knights in the center who broke through and attacked the German crossbowmen in the open and the brave crossbowmen who hit pikes in the flank.
