Hi Kronenblat. It Looks like this is Apulian (Carpenlm) who defend their capital. So I think that the +30 pts for capital is for Carpenkm. If not I'm happy...
In all case I'll fight with epirotes and apulian allies.

True, thanks. You’ll get the City adjustment of +30 FP and he the Capital adjustment, also of +30 FP.dim30 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 11:12 pm 7. Type A - dim30 (army 7, 1346 + 30 FP due to Capital) versus carpenkm (army 17, 1234 FP + 30 FP due to City). Mediterranean Agricultural. carpenkm sets up.

I've set up the match (hopefully correctly!) - password is dim30 (no caps)
Good Luck

=> kronenblatt defeats dim30 56-30.
Given my unstructured battle line at start and the chaos that ensued, I would have been slaughtered without my +400 FP.
Then again, with even FPs I wouldn't have needed to press ahead so quickly and do the chase, I guess. Many thanks for the game, Stéphane: as you say, it was both fun and nervous.

Dragmio beat batesmotel 56-22. The generic Italian infantry wasn't up to fighting off hoplites in mostly open terrain. Thanks for the game.

16. Type B - Vulci: Doyley50 (army 16, 1200 FP) versus Karvon (Etruscan, 1000 FP). Mediterranean Agricultural.
Karvon's Etruscan defenders defeated Doyley50's Etruscan invaders 41-14.
Battle was joined on the banks of a large river which blocked off our left flank. A small ridge ran from our board edge overlooking the river on our left. A small village lay about in the center of our front line. a narrow band of rough extended to the right of the village slightly masking our center. A stream ran along the front of the enemy deployment area, passing through a small pond not far from the river and then a fairly large rough patch. A long ridge in their deployment area overlooked the stream.
Given our smaller force, we maxed out what what lights we could get, took most of the better heavy infantry, but traded off for quantity by bulking up with a fair number of raw hopolites and legionnaires. We took a couple of cavalry to give a bit of a mobile reserve, but expected to be outnumbered there, so didn't take more.
We initially deployed our better heavy infantry in line between the village and the river with our raw troops formed up a bit behind as a reserve second line. Our cavalry we initially hid in and behind the woods on our right. Our lights we placed in a loose screen across our front. Our plan was to narrow the front to between the river on our left and the woods on our right. The village and rough gave us an additional shield as the enemy had no medium foot, so we could deploy behind those for a defensive advantage should he try to force through with his heavy foot.
The invaders deployed his heavy foot about in the center to avoid the rough and pond cluttering the way along the river. He deployed his cavalry division on his right and a large screen of lights extending from the pond across the center. He started forward, shifting his cavalry to skirt the pond and cover the flank of his light screen. We shifted a few of our reserve line up onto the hill securing our left flank and closing down any real chance of his cavalry getting through, so they reversed and shifted over to cover his advancing left flank. His large cloud of skirmishers moved up to clear my smaller screen.
We shifted our own cavalry from the woods to our far left flank to threaten the flanks of the light screen. We also shifted our heavy foot line to the right, pushing several of our better units to fill the gap between the rough and the woods. We left a couple of raw units to hold the line along the edges of the rough and behind the village. Our other better heavies stretched from the village towards the river with our cavalry supported by some raw foot holding down the end of the line opposite skirmishers.
Once his lights drew near, we aggressively attacked them with our own lights to pin them down or dive them off. and followed up by hitting pinned ones with our cavalry or heavy foot. We dispatched a few in this manner and thus minimized the damage inflicted by his lights before the heavy foot engaged. His cavalry shifted back to the right to counter mine and cover the flank of his advancing heavy foot. Some of our surviving light pushed around the enemy right and took some shots at his cavalry, but our horse were soon engaged and a long inconclusive melee commenced.
The heavy infantry engaged. I got a fairly favorable match up on my right due to the narrow gap, more generals and a slight edge in quality of troops engaged. He attacked the village, held by one of my better legions, and that tied up a couple of his units inconclusively for awhile. Left of the village, the fight was move even in terms of numbers and quality.
We did some damage on our left and a lot on our right, while our center and cavalry held out. We turned the enemy left, but his army collapsed before we really were able to exploit that.

Quality units against mostly raw recruits made for the inevitable, despite the valiant try from my opponent. GG!

18. Aurinia: Dreddradish (army 18) versus SpeedyCM (Etruscan).
Dreddradish defeats SpeedyCM 62 - 0
The outnumbered defenders feigned a hill defense but when they launched the surprise counterattack luck turned decisively against them. A good plan that rolled poorly.
