AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
I've never done an AAR for FoG2, but I find that writing one up helps me learn a game better. In spite of having over 140 hours on the game I'm rather inexperienced since I my play style is more "beer and pretzels" than serious studying of POA spreads and the like. I play solo and until this run through I've always played against the vanilla AI. However, I installed the Rise of AI Global Mod v3.12 and so decided to play a match with it, using the Swifter Than Eagles DLC. Here are the settings.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
Here are my Egyptians. I've played with these settings a couple of times. The first time I alternated my Massed Archers with my Egyptian Close Fighters in the battleline and the AI took advantage of this and focused on the archers. So I switched to a setup where the Egyptian Close Fighters were in the center with the archers on each wing. I won that battle much more easily but I felt like the AI didn't respond as well. So I installed the Rise Of AI mod and this AAR is the result.
Here is what my battle formation looked like. The Egyptian Close Fighters are in the center of the line, with the Mass Archers filling out the two wings. I have four Maryannu Light Chariots on each flank and my reserve is one Massed Archer, my one and only Libyan Foot and my remaining Egyptian Close Fighters which is under the direct command of my C-in-C. The image below is only missing the extra general I forgot to add, I put him in the center and put the Egyptian Close Fighters under his direct command.
I have concentrated my light troops in the center to block enemy archery against my Egyptian Close Fighters.

And here is the enemy formation. Four chariots on his left, two on the right and two in reserve. The right of his line is stronger that its left. And his light troops are spread out on the sides but mostly concentrated in the middle.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
A closer look at my two wings after the turn 2 player half. I'm moving forward to contact.
This is probably a good time to reveal my strategy. My intent is to move forward with my light troops and break up his in the middle, then advance my Egyptian Close Fighters in the center while I hold my two wings in place. The Massed Archers will give the enemy a hard time while my Egyptian Close Fighters smash his center, then roll up to the left, right or both ways.

The end of the AI half of turn 4. On the right I have moved forward my chariots to engage his. On my left, I'm engaging his two chariots and also moving to interdict his two light troops on that side.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
The end of the AI half of turn 5. On the left I have driven off one of his chariots and one of his light troops. On the right one of my four chariots is already fragmented while his are doing well. In the center the light troops are battling it out.
Note: I forgot to mention, all screenshots will be taken from behind my line, even if on the flanks. Just to avoid confusion.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
After the AI half of turn 6. The right, center and left. On the right I broke my rule to not use my Massed Archers and their precious ammunition on targets other than the enemy line, but my chariots need the help. In the center the light troops are still fighting. On the left one of my chariots has chased an enemy right up to their line and will pay the price.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
The start of turn 8. The chariots on the left and right are still fighting each other. In the center I'm withdrawing my light troops. In its half the AI continued the fight on the wings and with the light troops, but their battleline is still holding in place.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
The start of turn nine. On the left I've angled my Mass Archers to give my chariots an assist. In the center my light troops are now behind my line. On the right the chariots are also fighting, but one of mine is chasing one of his towards the center.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
Start of turn 10. I've moved my light troops in front of my battleline again as his light troops just don't seem to understand when to give up
. One of my chariots has routed away, while another from the left is now also charging down the center between the battlelines.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
Start of turn 12. His right wing is now advancing. With only Massed Archers there I am vulnerable, but I have little in the way of reserves. I'm moving two Massed Archers units towards the left flank, along with my sole Libyan Foot unit.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
Start of turn 13. The crisis on my left flank continues as the enemy commits most of his Irregular Foot in that direction. My reinforcements await behind the line.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
After my half of turn 13. With the enemy committing so many troops to his right wing, I finally let loose my Egyptian Close Fighters from the center of my line. They move to the left, center and right.

Re: AAR Egyptian 1450BC vs Babylonian 1594BC using Rise of AI Mod
Start of turn 14, an overview of the field. On the left the enemy attacks my archers, who are not close combat fighters and won't last long. In the center my Egyptian Close Fighters have now established two lines, facing the two enemy flanks. On the right the enemy still bides his time.

Start of turn 15, left flank. The enemy is in melee with two of my archers. It might have been worse but my chariot is attacking from behind. Meanwhile a couple of Egyptian Close Fighters move in from the right.

Start of turn 17. On the left flank the situation has reversed. My one Egyptian Close Fighter unit is on hand while the Massed Archers continue to shoot at the enemy, although they have been at Low Ammo for awhile. Two of my chariots also come to assist.
