Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
I noted that "Field Repairs" hero doesn´t work on air units , so is there any hero that repairs air units like Fields Repairs does to ground units?
Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
there isn´t which is a shame, since field repairs where much more common on plains than tanks.

Thanks to both.
Perhaps that could be something that the developers want to solve in the near future.

Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
mine was ,too. on the balkans mostly. when germany ran out of pilots he was recalled to the Eifel to help build the "Panzersperre" there. judging by his stories, "juryrigging" damaged planes was daily work.
maybe field repairs could be working on planes that can land on dirt airfields. that would be appropriate.

Seems like there's some grandfather mechanic pattern here - my grandfather on my father's side was an airplane mechanic in the Polish army. Granted, this was only directly after the war but it was still in the 40's, so worked on Il-2's and some other WW2 era kit.Grondel wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 2:13 pmmine was ,too. on the balkans mostly. when germany ran out of pilots he was recalled to the Eifel to help build the "Panzersperre" there. judging by his stories, "juryrigging" damaged planes was daily work.

I guess there's nothing in particular that would prevent Field Repair working with planes. I don't recall of the top of my head if the repair takes place at the start of your turn on at the start of enemy turn if not firing (if the latter it would be just slightly strange to see planes get replacements away from the airfield), but nothing too silly.

Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
My dad was an officer in charge of a ground crew in the US 8th air force.
Even though they were called the 24th bombardment group, his unit was actually a weather reconnaissance outfit. They were equipped with B24s and oddly enough, British Mosquitoes. The Mosquitos were part of the little known, reverse lend lease, where Britain provided equipment to the US.
As far as the field repair hero goes. I just figured out today that they wont give free repair to any captured unit, if you don't have the parts available. I thought that a little odd. Since the hero will repair the Gustav gun which has no spare parts.

That's not true; I use and have a repair hero replace lost tank strength all the time, and yes, even to captured units that I have not one replacement left.Patrat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 10:35 pm My dad was an officer in charge of a ground crew in the US 8th air force.

Hero with Field repairs can repair Sturer Emil without spending parts. I've tried this today and it works.
Panzer Corps 2 is the most ahistorical game in the history of WW2 games

Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
Hmm. I just finished Epsom and both my KV2 and Spitfire had field repair heros and both of them stopped gaining points. At first I couldn't figure out why. Then I noticed I was out of replacement parts for both.
I had both units just sitting doing nothing. Both of them in supply, and neither would repair.
Maybe there's something special about the KV and the Spitfire and that's why they wont repair without parts.

Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
For Spitfires it should not work at least based on how it combined with planes, but for ground units... will have to check it on my own at one point if that's the case. That would be a shame, since not using up prototype/captured parts was the sole thing that made Field Repairs a thing for me since it allowed to use unique vehicles in the long run. Without it, some captures would not be feasible even with Trophies of War trait and Scavenger heroes doing the capturing.Patrat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 6:42 am Hmm. Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
It seems that I was mistaken about the KV2. I went back and checked my saves and found that the field repair hero is indeed working on the KV, just not the Spitfire.
Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
If we added a third "repair" hero for aircraft specifically, how would you suggest to call it?
Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
Nice, that's huge for my continuing my Panzermon AAR strategy. Thanks for giving me ease of mind!

1. Aircraft Maintenance - not too flashy, but simple and understandable.
2. Aircraft Engineer - likewise
3. Aircraft Technician - likewise
4. Aircraft Repairs - for similarity to Field Repairs, but probably a bit too awkward

I like these suggestions. "Ground Crew" is another option that might make it clear that it's not for tanksTassadar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:57 pmNice, that's huge for my continuing my Panzermon AAR strategy. Thanks for giving me ease of mind!

"Airframe Mechanic" was the literal name of the job in WWII, at least if you were in the British Navy / Airforce.
I actually still have my grandfathers certificate, but it's at home in Jersey, so I can't show you guys at the moment.
Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
Did you grow up in Jersey, or are you a transplant for work, woman, or other reason?
Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
As long as i get my spitfires repaired for free i´m ok with any name.
From what Granddad told me, they used duct tape to fix holes in wings when they had to be quick. just make sure it flies and off u go.
maybe something with "jury-rigged" in it.
i´m also fine with no new hero and fieldrepairs working on planes.

Re: Does "Field Repairs"hero work on air units?
Yeah, reading a little while ago about it "patch job" is a pretty common term. So perhaps "Patch Up Expert?"Grondel wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 8:00 pm As long as i get my spitfires repaired for free i´m ok with any name.
