No aliens, but for me it was fun to play DLC 39-40-41 with Italian units.
And no either, it starts not with Ethiopia.
The campaign begins on June 11th, 1940 in a little oasis called Giarubub.

Back to the Italy campaign, is there any chance you could have a mission that has the Italians trying to stop the Medium mk 2s reaching the oasis where they were dug in as pillboxes? The idea of the vickers medium actually seeing combat is strangely appealing, even though it was well past its best by 1940.

If i recall well, there was an East African campaign mod for Panzer General.
Since i am restricting myself to the vanilla icons, there won''t be any battle there. There might be some what-if scenarios but that is for after the initial release.
I'm still jumping from one scenario to the other in the editor, but there is a scenario where the player has to delay British armored units from cutting off the 10th Italian army. They won't be dug in like pillboxes but perhaps it might be possible to provoke some ambushes.

10th Army (Italy)
The 10th Army was an Italian army that took part in the Second World War. The army participated in battles in Egypt and Libya. It was completely defeated by British troops during the Libyan operation.

1. The battle path. Battles in North Africa
The 10th Italian Army was formed in Libya on October 15, 1939. In September 1940, as part of three corps, the 21st, 23rd and Libyan Armies participated in the Invasion of Egypt, during which they managed to advance to Sidi Barrani, where they stopped the offensive and took up defense. On December 8, a counteroffensive by British troops began, which led to the defeat of the 10th Army and the encirclement of its main forces at Beda Fomma. On February 7, 1941, the remnants of the army surrendered. The British captured about 20 thousand people, captured more than 200 guns and 120 tanks.
