Balista on a Steep Hill
Greetings.
This is my first post so be kind to an old gamer.
Our group has been playing FOG for about a year. We are currently conducting a campaign game based on Boudiccas rebelion in Briton against the Romans.
We are trying to determine if the Romans can set up a balista on a steep hill at the outset of the game. We realize that it cannot be moved in difficult terrain but we wanted to clarify if it could be placed there at the outset.
Any help would be greatly appreiated.

viewtopic.php?t=6842&highlight=artillery+ambush is the thread about artillery in ambush. The restriction there is on deploying in an ambush, which is not allowed, not on where artillery not in ambush can deploy.

page 146......Exceptions, no troops can be deployed in impassible terrain or a river. Heavy artillery cannot be deployed in difficult terrain. Other troops cannot be deployed in terrain in which they have no movement allowance.
Seems to support Tanker1's post. Since heavy artillery has no move period it would not fall into the movement category and is specifically restricted from impassible, rivers or difficult terrain. Page 147 covers deployment restrictions after the whole ambush thingy in Appendix 4

In the rules at present the answer is no, and I think we clarrified it. This is becuase the standard evening or comp game is an encoutner battle at the end of the day.
FWIW when playing around with campaign ideas the idea was "yes" if set up 24 hours before the battle. So if you are doing a campaign then I think you can make a local rule around that principle of - yes you can if you had the time to set it up.

Hopefully these turn out allright.
The first 2 photos are the setup for the Boudiccas campaign battle as viewed from both side.. The Brits have an army of around 2900 points. The Romans are half that.

This image is taken from the Roman camp on the steep hill. The general is looking over the battlefield. This is the same steep hill that I had wanted tp place my balistas on just to the front of the camp.

Tanker:
If I paste the url's into a new browser window, I can get to your pictures, although for some reason they are shown as really tiny thumbnails until I click on them, when they open as the proper size in a new layer.
It seems the link you have provided is to this thumbnail page, not direct to the image, which is probably why the img tags are not working properly.
However, having poked around on the photoecoz site, the only link it generates for the full size picture I was looking at is the one you provided, so I don't quite see how it is supposed to work...
The raw URL http://robertmiller.photoecoz.com/colle ... Bo1dSROnHL seems to work if you click the auto-generated link, but not as an img tag:

It may be that the board software img tag doesn't like a url without a jpg or other image-type file extension
See if photoecoz provide a page with links for bulleting boards, etc, like other picture hosting sites do.
Then you'll be able to use this format:
to provide a clickable thumbnail link to your image

This happens because IMG tag need an image (jpg, gif, etc file) and instead he has supplied an address to a script. If you use photobucket they give you a direct link to each image you upload twhich you can use with IMG tag. I don't know in which way photoecoz manages your files.johno wrote:The raw URL http://robertmiller.photoecoz.com/colle ... If you want your images appear on your post, you cannot include command for script file. Try to quote this message and look how I changed your code.Tanker1 wrote:I went back to photobucket and did a bulk load of the 3 pictures. This time it appeared to accept it. The previous time it said it loaded them but they were not in the folder. I thought this was because they were greater than 1MB in size.
Here they are:
P.S. in photobucket they now include an "IMG Code" row which you can copy and paste and which include the tag for this forum software.
