Indo Skythian foot

Post by bobm »

I'm busy building an Indo Skythian army in 15mm. On the army list in the optional troops there's some mf protected swordsmen which look useful.
However there's no mention of such a troop type in any of classical Indian, Graeco Bactrian or Skythian lists (which provide all the rest of the troops).
So......What are they?
Indians wielding their big swords? (with shield or body armour?)...or
Skythians on foot with axe and shield? (their axe makes them swordsmen when mounted)....or
Something else I just haven't thought of?

How do they look useful ? MF swordsmen are one of the worst possible troop types in the game. Same points as the typical MF Light Spear Swordsmen, but without the Light Spear, so likely to lose to pretty much every other troop type at impact.

There's not too much medium foot in that army list so a unit that can sidle up and assist in a melee from an overlap position that's a swordsman comes in handy. I find if you've got medium foot you need as much of it as you can get. All my opinion of course.
