More on Commagenes

Post by whitehorses »

Could someone point me in the right direction for a worthy tome on Commagene/Seleucid uniform & colours for Pikemen, archers & Horsearchers please?

Nothing suitable in PB's Armies & Enemies of Imperial Rome sadly, so any help, much obliged :)

Cheers,
Jer

Wrong book I think :)

"Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars", if you can get hold of it.

Top Man! 8)
It's on Amazon, so I'll go shopping for it!

BTW, do you mean the one by PB or Duncan Head & Ian Heath?
The former is from 1971, the latter from 1982....

Good question...I wasn't aware of that!

I believe I have the DH + IH one. I'll try to remember to check when I get home tonight.

I'm pretty sure that one is effectively an update of the PB version, both being WRG publications after all, albeit continued and expanded by different authors. So differences will reflect changes in opinion or more information having come to light over the previous decade. And therefore the later one can be assumed to be better. Probably ;)

Of course, thinking may have changed again since 1982 (was it really that long ago? Blimey, how time flies.). Almost certainly in fact! So there may well be other better reference works available nowadays.

Definitely the latter....plus some eye candy from Tim Newark's concord book (ancient warriors) if you can get hold of a copy.
PG; May contain swearing Russian roulette bloody violence terror medical and regular gore distress horror (including guinea pigs) fantasy horror with scenes where characters are endangered by food and hard to categorise situations involving penguins.

Have been shopping at Amazon for the Concord of not only Ancients but also Imperial Rome - particularly as the latter has a portrait of something pertaining to my current army in progress :)
Not forgetting the DH/IH version of Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars LOL

Much appreciated for your help Gents, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the postman :)

Cheers,
Jer
